~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
He shared about missing his mother's last days because he had been out on the road with his AA team, and how he regretted it. I thought about telling him about my grandfather, but I didn't. I knew I would cry and there was no way I wanted to cry right then. I did tell him, though, about how my dad left when I was six, and I was raised by my mother and her father, my grandfather.
            And we talked about baseball - how it was my first love, how he only really felt comfortable and at home out on the field, how I hadn't missed a Giants home game in 10 years, how excited he was to finally be playing in the majors.
            There was a pause again and we were silently looking at each other. I was thinking how comfortable it was just to be quiet with him, how I didn't feel like I needed to entertain him...when he leaned forward and kissed me.
            It was gentle and tentative at first, then it became more aggressive and forceful. My mind went blank for a moment. I leaned toward him and he wrapped his arm around me, pulling me closer. His kiss just pulled me in.  Any hesitance I'd had about him evaporated, and I knew I'd never be the same.
Book Blast ~ Enticing Hart by Mae Hancock
This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. One randomly drawn commenter via Rafflecopter will receive a $10 Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift card. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.
Hart Emile is tired of cruising for guys, living a soulless existence. He needs a change; so when an acquaintance gives him the number of the gay friendly Red Fox Ranch that’s hiring for staff, he heads south.
Oak Redman is eighteen years old and desperate to explore his awakening sexuality. The moment Hart lays eyes on the handsome young rancher he’s smitten. Not only is Oak hot, spirited and very persistent, he is also the ranch boss’s son and strictly off limits. Hart tries to fight his feelings and to respect his boss and the family who quickly become dear to him, but after Oak's Grandma suggests he gets with Oak he can't deny himself the most exciting and enticing man he has ever met.
Hart’s not the only man to have noticed how sweet and charming Oak Redman is. A family friend, Steve, is also anxious to have the affections of the young rancher. Can Hart work out Steve’s dark secrets before it’s too late and keep his job, his lover and his life?
Enjoy an excerpt:
The following morning, Bay took Hart into town to pick up supplies. The boss had shown a lot of hospitality to him since he’d arrived two days before, and Hart wanted to work hard and prove Bay’d made the right decision in employing him.
Dark sunglasses hid Bay’s eyes, but the look suited him. Hart guessed Bay must be about thirty-five, and then he added a few years to account for Oak’s age. The man didn’t appear gay, but none of the other cowboys on the ranch did either—not even Oak with his pretty, elfin face. Hart had always believed he could spot gay guys, but now he wasn’t so sure.
As they approached town, Bay turned the radio down. ”Understand you and Oak are planning a fishing trip next week.”
Caught off guard, Hart searched for words. “Yeah…we arranged to go huntin’ and fishing sometime. I didn’t know Oak planned on next week, but it’s fine if we can get the time off.” He cringed. He’d only been in the job five minutes, and now Bay knew he wanted time off.
“I need to make one thing clear to you before you go anywhere with my boy.”
Hart glanced at him with caution. “Okay.” He took a deep breath.
“Now, I don’t know anything about you or your sexuality, and I don’t want to know. Those things are your business. I will say this, though. My son…is not available.”
“I understand.”
“I hope you do, Hart. There are few things can make a man angry, and one of ’em’s messing with his family. Same goes for my daughter. She's not available either.”
“Okay.”
“I’m not saying you can’t go fishin’ or nothing, and I know it’s Oak pushing me to give you time off and not the other way around, so I’m not worried about that. It’s fine if you want to be friends, but remember what I said.”
“Yes, sir. I understand.” Hart swallowed hard, feeling nauseated. He stared out of the window, having second thoughts about going because he didn’t trust himself. He’d intended to finish what Oak had started in the barn, but now? Hart didn’t want to put himself into a situation where something might go wrong—or right, as the case may be.
He’d thought about nothing but Oak since he’d first seen him on the porch, strong muscles moving with easy grace, and with each move Hart had felt the slamming in his chest. He wanted to trace each curve with his tongue and sate the urgent need to satisfy the young man. With his body as powerful and mature as his father, Oak didn’t seem like an eighteen-year old. Nevertheless, it didn’t make Hart feel any better about taking advantage.
The last thing he wanted was to see an angry Bay coming after him for messing with his son. It would be ungrateful and disrespectful to get involved with his boy. Hart had to try to think of a way to keep the two happy.
Hart loved being in Oak’s company—he was open, trusting, inquisitive, and intelligent—a real turn-on, but an obvious combination for trouble. Oak complemented Hart’s own quiet persona well. At least their friendship could continue.
He admired the actions Bay had taken to protect his kids. His own father had always been distant with him. On the other hand, at almost nineteen years old, Oak should be able to make his own mistakes. Would it be a mistake? The ranch was a workplace, and most employers discouraged relationships between employees.
“How’re you settling in?” Bay asked in a lighter tone.
He was dead. Had to be. Hagan stared into the darkness surrounding him. He’d been out in the sunshine for too long—nasty business for a vampire. Sunlight ensured death. He shouldn’t have been in the daylight at all. He should’ve stayed in the cave…but he had to keep Ava alive. If she didn’t make it, then no one would know the true extent of what Maslow had done. Someone had to change the tide of the war.
He wondered if she’d made it out. He hadn’t seen her when he went back to the cave. He’d damn near burned to a crisp in the sun. His hands and arms were practically black and peeling. So much for trying to help. But when had he crawled back into the cave? The last he knew, he was still outside in the sunshine.
Hagan groaned. So this is what death felt like…a charred steak left in blackness. It wasn’t as if he was going to head to heaven. Nope. Vampires weren’t on par with angels. He’d be lucky if he received passage to hell. At least there, he’d see his other vampire friends. He hadn’t done a thing to earn him an audience with the Sources.
“Do you know where you are?” a thin male voice asked.
He froze, although he wasn’t sure if movement was possible in the vast vacuum of darkness.
“I’m lost and confused,” he confessed. “Where am I?”
“You’ve been found. Sit,” the male said.
Hagan still wasn’t sure who was talking or where to sit. He glanced around at nothingness. As he looked, the darkness faded and he noticed an outcropping of rocks. The stones arranged almost like a chair. Huh. He’d seen rocks like that before, but only one place and it was while he’d passed through… He’d heard about stones and darkness where the Sources held court, but surely, they weren’t talking to him. Was he in the presence of the oldest beings in the world? The Sources?
“Yes, Vampire. You are where you believe yourself to be.” A light appeared, illuminating a figure clad in a crimson robe. Dust swirled in the light, obscuring the individual’s face.
“Sir.” Hagan dropped to his knees and bowed his head. He was really in the cave of the Sources. No freaking way. The Sources only called the most important Supers into their presence. He wasn’t important.
“Speak the words on your mind,” the male Source said.
“I don’t know why I’m here.” Hagan didn’t look up. “I should be dead. I was in the sunshine. Did I save Ava? Is she my mate? What’s going on with the war?” Good Goddess, he had a lot of word vomit in his head.
“Ah. The vampire of many questions.”
“Will you tell me?” He had no right to be so demanding, but they had told him to speak.
“You’ve been summoned.”
“And saved? Or am I dying?”
“Your journey is not at the end.”
The Source talked in so many stupid riddles. Hagan bit back a growl. “Then what am I to do?”
“Continue on.”
“How?” he blurted. He didn’t even know where he was going or how he was supposed to get there.
“Trust your heart and your calling. The war is still not won and can be lost on good intentions.”
His calling? Lost on good intentions? Why in the name of the Goddess did they have to be so cryptic? “I’m confused.” He couldn’t see much more than the Source’s robe. They could reveal themselves to him. It wasn’t as if he’d live to tell anyone about what he’d seen. He hated not knowing what was going on or seeing the face of the person talking to him.
“As expected, you are confused. Your journey is long and hard. You will return to the Earth. Find your mate and continue on your way. Trust.” The being snapped his fingers. “Go.”
The Source would have to sound like a mystical sci-fi character from the movies—all enigmatic and bizarre.
“Aren’t sure about the club?” He nodded to the front door. “You look like a scared rabbit.”
“I’m uneasy,” she confessed.
“I assume this is your first time.” The man strode up to her. He extended his hand. “My name is James Richards. I’ve been here on many occasions. You’ll be fine.”
“I don’t know.” She wasn’t sure about the club, but the more he spoke, the more she longed to hear his accent. Was it a British accent? European? She wasn’t sure.
“Why don’t we go inside? The receptionist will certainly answer any questions. She can even set up a tour so you’re not so worried.” He slipped her hand into his. “You’ll be safe.”
Christ. She trembled. From his touch? Or the situation? “You sound so sure.”
“And you don’t.” James nodded to the door. “They won’t hold you if you go into the foyer. There are benches. Why don’t we go in and talk? If you’re still not sure, you can leave whenever you choose.”
She could debate her situation or at least visit the inside of the club.  Meg sighed. “Sure.”
“Sure?” He tipped his head and grinned. “Is that a yes?”
“It is.”
“Wonderful.” James led her into the club. Unlike the stark concrete outside, the foyer had been decorated in rich burgundy on the walls and thick black carpeting on the floor. The benches featured a gold line of cording at the edges. When he gestured to one of the benches, she perched on the plush cushion.
She glanced over at the receptionist window. Instead of a person behind the glass, she didn’t see anyone. “Who do you talk to?”
“To get in?” James pointed to the main door. “Once you’re a member, you have a card. You swipe and come right in. There’s a sensor that alerts the security if someone tries to slip in.”
“Oh.”
James crossed the room to the window. A woman appeared. Her bright blue hair shone in the overhead light. She swiped her gaze over to Meg, then handed James an object. Neither of them spoke to Meg, bringing back a bit of her discomfort. After a moment, James turned on his heel and headed to where Meg sat.
“This is the tablet to get you started.” He offered the electronic device. “If you want, I’ll help you.”
“Thanks.” Meg turned the tablet around and swiped her index finger across the screen. “Okay…personal information. Didn’t I fill this in when I registered online?” She turned the device away from James and inputted the needed info. Why give him details when she barely knew him? She probably wouldn’t see him again once they went into the actual club. “I’m on the health history page.”
“That’s important. They owners insist on keeping the place safe.” James leaned back in his seat and crossed his legs. He had such grace when he moved. Everything he did seemed planned out and meant to impress.
She filled in the information, then swiped her finger to change the page. “Kinks,” she blurted. “Well, they do get right down to the point, don’t they?” She could’ve sworn she’d filled the information out online…
“The owners do their best to pair you up with the dom who will best meet your needs. If you’re a dominant, then they’ll find a sub for you.” James smiled.
“You seem to know a lot. Are you an owner?”
“No,” he said. “What are your kinks? No one here will judge you.”
She stared at the list. Spanking, bondage, pain play, anal sex, whipping, blood play and many more. She flexed her fingers. “I—Are you sure no one will judge?” What would the others say if they found out she liked exhibitionism and to be spanked?
“They won’t. Promise.”
“Okay.” She nodded and ticked off the boxes. Her hands shook as she inputted the rest of the information. On the last page, she added the reference number she’d been given from Annalise. A new page popped up.
“Thank you. We’ll match you up with your preferred play partner soon,” she said, reading out loud. She turned her attention to James. “How long is soon?”
“Won’t be more than ten minutes or so.” James stretched his arm across the back of the bench. “You still seem apprehensive. What kink are you worried about?”
“You can tell, huh?” She clasped the tablet on her lap. “It’s that obvious?”
“I’m observant and I was once in your shoes. This is rather overwhelming.” He waved his fingers. “A club where people have other people strap them down and such. My mind went in a thousand directions and none of them were correct. If I can help you, I will.”
Cover Reveal ~ Hearts on Fire by Alison Packard
This post is part of a virtual book tour revealing the cover of Alison Packard's newest book Hearts on Fire which will be released on February 3. One randomly drawn commenter via Rafflecopter will receive a $10 Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift card. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.
Country music star Jessie Grant has it all. An amazing voice, a string of multi-platinum albums, and a sold-out concert tour. But just before her Hearts on Fire tour rolls into Las Vegas, her lead guitarist is badly injured and is unable to play. Desperate to find a replacement before the night of a televised live show, Jessie is forced to accept help from the last person on earth she wants to see again.
Drew Carmichael has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the best up-and-coming musicians in Nashville, without cashing in on his renowned father’s name. When Jessie’s manager calls and asks him to fill in for her band’s injured guitar player, he agrees to help Jessie out even though she cut him out of her life four months ago.
In Sin City, sparks fly between Jessie and Drew, and it isn’t long before they give in to their mutual attraction. But when the dark past Jessie has successfully hidden for ten years explodes in the media, their tenuous bond is put to the test, and both Jessie and Drew must learn to trust each other if they don’t want their newfound romantic relationship to go up in flames.
Enjoy an excerpt:
Jessie Grant stared at the cheery yellow wall in her dressing room, and fought the overwhelming urge to throw something. Anything. Her agitated gaze fell on the lovely vase of flowers that had been delivered just before the show, and she had to remind herself that violence, especially towards a perfectly innocent bouquet of pink roses and white calla lilies, wouldn’t solve anything.
But then again, it might relieve the tension that was coiled inside of her like a tightly wound spring.
“Calm down.”
“Calm down?” Jessie whirled around and met the exasperated eyes of her manager. “You expect me to calm down when my guitar player, who, unbeknownst to me, was half-wasted during our set, and decided to stage dive into the audience.” She pointed a finger at him. “That broken arm of his isn’t gonna to heal in four days. I need another guitar player, and I need one now.”
“Relax,” Wally Lindell said in a soothing voice. “I’m working on it.”
“How are you working on it?”
She propped her hands on her hips and gave him her best glacial stare. It didn’t faze him. It never did. He’d been her manager since she was fifteen years old, and he knew her better than anyone. So he should have known that she would be totally freaked out about losing her lead guitar player four days before her exclusive gig in Las Vegas, after all, he was the one who had dubbed her a perfectionist.
“I put in a call to Drew.”
Jessie’s already churning stomach lurched wildly. “Drew Carmichael?”
“How many other guitar players named Drew do you know?” Wally shot her a wise-ass grin.
Only one.
“So you talked to him?” she asked, as she moved to the make-up table. She picked up the bottle of water her stylist had left out for her and took a sip. Maybe the simple task would soothe her frayed nerves.
It didn’t even come close.
“What did he say?”
“I left him a message. He hasn’t called me back yet.” Wally shoved his hands into the front pockets of his black jeans and looked her straight in the eyes with an unflinching directness.
She’d seen that look before; the one telling her that while she might be the star, he was the one who’d gotten her there, and before she went off half-cocked, she’d better let him have his say. And of course, she would. She respected Wally far too much not to listen to him.
“He’s the only guitar player we can get on such short notice that knows your set list,” he continued. “I don’t know what happened between the two of you, but whatever it is, you need to put it aside for the sake of this gig, and maybe the rest of the tour.”
“What makes you think something happened?” she asked with feigned nonchalance.
It was best not to let anyone, especially Wally, know how much she cared about Drew.
“Because you two were as thick as thieves last spring, and now it’s like he’s dropped off the face of the earth. Did you have a falling out?”
“No.” Jessie scowled, as she returned the bottle to the table. “We didn’t have a falling out. I’ve been on the road for months now and he…he’s got a life.”
A life that didn’t include her.
Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback ~ Playoffs ~ Week Two
It's the playoffs! Holy cow. My team isn't in the bracket right now, but that's okay. There is still plenty of football to love.
So since there are still more playoff games to watch and quotes to gather, here are the honorable Mentions from last week:
See if they can pound it in.
Well, if they can’t pound it, then they’ve got a problem.
Pounds it in.
Oh, good. They were successful.
Thinks they’re pulling it back.
So, they didn’t get it? Aww. Sucks. They worked hard.
They couldn’t pound it in.
It’s confirmed. He didn’t do it.
Pulling, pounding...dangerous.
Now on to those football funnies of the week.
No pressure on him whatsoever.
Since he had issues before, it’s probably just as good. He needed a help.
Has been jilted so far.
No one wants him? That’s sad.
Able to open holes.
Maybe that’s his problem. He’s able to open them, but has no follow through?
He’s gonna pick it up.
He got lucky. I wonder. What’s he picking up?
They get what they need just about every time he picks up the ball.
Yes, but what do they need?
Weak side.
Everyone has to have one sometime.
Now for the doozy. Hee hee. Always good to know the commentators think before they speak.
"No reason for him to go anywhere—he’s open."
Snort. That’s how it works sometimes. He’s open. I bet he’s popular, too.
~
Since you're reading this, I'll bring this up. There's a Bengals player whose daughter was diagnosed with cancer. A portion of his jersey sales are being donated to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital to help with cancer research. It's a great cause. I've ordered mine. Want to know more?
Thank you!
Enjoy an excerpt:
Franklin rose, lithe and poised, from the chair. He turned toward me and offered a hand. “Pleasure to meet you, Tate.”
Tate? Nobody had called me Tate except for my father and the assholes in high school. One-Date Tate. The nickname and the curse followed me like a perpetual shadow through most of my academic career.
I would’ve corrected him, but when his full mug came into view, my tongue curled up and shriveled. My IQ dropped thirty points. Again, I quickly averted my eyes. I had no choice. They threatened to pop out of my head. There was good looking and there was gorgeous. This man played in a league that put both of them to shame. “Pleasure meeting you,” I managed to stutter. With grace comparable to a drunk college freshman, I grasped his hand and gave it one good shake. When I tried to pull away, he squeezed tighter and caressed a thumb across my knuckles.
My girlie parts twitched. No joke. I needed to leave before I left a puddle of desire on the floor between my feet. Holy cow, I’d never been affected in such a way.
“The pleasure is all mine.” Franklin tilted his head as if inviting me to admire him.
Nope. No way. I would not look into those eyes again. The way my body reacted, I’d end up sprawled naked across the desk with a rose between my teeth. I reclaimed my hand and jetted through the door.
Enjoy an excerpt:
Their bodies crashed together in the middle of the room. He didn’t even remember throwing his bag to the side. All he knew, or cared about, was the feel of her sweet mouth opening for him, her arms wrapped around his neck, and her fingers frantically unraveling his braid. He couldn’t stop the deep growl of approval rumbling through his chest or his equally haphazard attempt at releasing her flowing locks.
Maxim pulled his head back just long enough to gasp for air and lift her shirt over her head. He drank in the sight of her black lace bra lovingly cupping her luscious mounds until his shirt blocked the view as she yanked it up and practically tore it from his body. Her palms landed heavily on his pecs and she looked up to him.
“Damn, Maxim. You’re exactly like my vision, except better. If you have a black loin cloth on under those jeans, I’m going to faint.”
Plopping on the bed, he shucked his boots and socks then leapt back up. He unbuckled his belt and quickly slid the zipper down. He didn’t give a shit that his voice sounded like a barbaric maniac. He was close to having his skin next to hers and he couldn’t wait a moment longer.
“I have one back home, but there’s not a damn thing under here to get in my way.” He shoved his jeans off and kicked them to the side. He knew his cock was bobbing up and down in anticipation, and he watched her eyes gradually widen as she took in the sight. Her lips parted, and her words rushed out on a hard breath.
“Oh, shit.”
He grabbed the middle and lifted it toward his belly to give her ample viewing of what he had to offer.
“Don’t worry. You’ll fit me. That pussy’s mine.”
Her eyes flicked back up to his.
“Ah, hell. I like the way you talk. You just made my knees wobble.”
“I’m going to do more than that, sweetness. Lose the bra and get those jeans off. I want to see you.”
