from Winter’s Warmth by Angela Shelley

Alma squinted into the icy wind, bundled against the cold. The mansion stood quiet and dark, same as yesterday.

The satellite dish had been dragged off the stairs and laid on its side against the smooth, white stone building. The stairs where the equipment hit had crumbled, and several large cracks emanated from the impact crater.

Alma let out a gust of breath. If she’d stood there a second longer, she’d be dead. She dashed up the remaining steps, fearful of what else might come from above.

Inside the shelter of the stoop, the house itself radiated cold. Alma raised her red glove, lifting the brass knocker on hollow frozen door.

No answer came.

She pushed the bell.

Somewhere within, a chime tinkled like shattering glass. Still, no sound betrayed that anyone heard her summons.

She took a deep breath to ready herself.

Memories came easier now, easier than they had in years. She had been here before. Once in a Model T. Once before that in a carriage. Once on horseback. Every time, this ice, this cold. Every time, she’d lost him to her. The Ice Queen.

The door would be unlocked, as before. Something about the house, cold and relentless, stood above threat. It had no need for locks. Alma pushed the front door open and stepped inside.

About the authors:

Jill Jaynes began her love affair with romance when she was a teenager growing up in Southern California, spending many a late-night under the covers with a flashlight and good romance novel.  This early addiction stuck, and she discovered one day that telling great stories was even more fun than reading them.

When she’s not writing, you can find her a) wine-tasting, hiking or otherwise hanging out with her awesome husband, b) walking her two high-maintenance dogs, c) plotting her next story with her writer-daughter or d) working at her day job in her spare time.

ADULT EXCERPT:
Mindy lifted her legs and wrapped them around his waist, uncaring of the fact her dress rode up, and they stood in a public parking lot. Enough shadow hid her from view, she expected, and if not, she hoped whoever glanced at them enjoyed the show.
The hard ridge of Gage’s cock pressed against her, and the slow gyrating of his hips and thrusting tongue brought a gasp to her lips.
“Keep that hip action up,” she said as he kissed along her jaw, “and I’m going to come.”
“Hot and bothered, huh?” he whispered in her ear, his hot breath sending tingles along her spine.
“I want you.”
“I can’t keep my mind off of you, Mindy. Goddamnit.” Gage returned his lips to hers and slid a hand between them. He groaned as his fingertips rubbed along the wet silk separating their skin. “You’re fucking soaked.”
She wiggled against his hand with a moan. “I’m soaked because of you. I’ve never wanted a man like this before.”
“You’re like a drug…”
“This craving is driving me insane…”
He stared down into her eyes as his finger toyed with the edge of her panties against the inside of her thigh
“Touch me, Gage.”
He shut his eyes. Swallowed. With a groan, he slid his fingers beneath the edge of her panties and stroked up through her wetness. “I want you to come on my hand,” he whispered and leaned down, brushing his lips over hers. “I want your cum dripping off my fingers.”
She moaned and tipped her head back against the window as he slid his finger deep inside of her throbbing pussy. His thumb brushed over her clit, and she gasped, her body bucking against him.
Gage pressed in with a second finger and rubbed across her hard nub. “Come for me, baby.” He captured her lips, and Mindy’s climax ripped through her, his mouth muting her cries.
Her pussy clamped down on this thrusting fingers, trying to pull him deeper.
Not enough…
She whimpered while thrusting to meet him. “Need you,” she gasped, pulling her mouth away from him.
“Fuck.” Gage growled and bit her collarbone while flicking over her clit again.
“Oh, God!” A second climax rippled over Mindy, and she sucked in her lower lip to keep her groans contained.
Gage lifted his hand and licked his fingers clean as she panted for breath, her legs still wrapped tight around him. “You’re the sweetest thing I’ve ever tasted.”
Another rush of arousal swept over Mindy. “I want your cock inside of me, Gage.”
“Goddamn, the way you talk.”
They peered at each other in the darkness, and an ache Mindy recognized clenched her chest. Fucking only, she reminded herself, pushing the feeling away and lowering her wobbly legs.
“Let’s get back to the cabin before I beg to ride you right here in this truck.”
Gage groaned again and stepped back, adjusting himself through his jeans. “Don’t know if I can wait that long.”
“Get in the truck.”
A smirk brought out his dimple, and he pulled open her door, grabbed her purse, and ushered her up into the cab. He slammed the door and rounded the truck, and the second he climbed in, Mindy got onto her knees and reached over the console, her fingers fumbling with his jeans.
Gage slid the driver seat back all the way and took over, his steady hands making short work of unbuttoning his jeans and jerking them down off his hips. He slid his hand down his length, and Mindy bit down on her lip while grabbing a condom from her purse.
She climbed over the console, settling her knees on either side of his hips, and he reached for the condom. “Let me,” she whispered, wiping her thumb over the bead of pre-cum at his tip.
Gage tipped his head back against the headrest, grasping his base and holding his cock out toward her.
She stuck her thumb in her mouth, sucking the salty taste off with a small moan. “If there was more room in this truck…”
“Fuck,” he groaned in response, another bead rising to replace the one she’d tasted. “Hurry up before I blow my fucking load all over this pretty dress of yours.”
With a small laugh, Mindy rolled the condom down over his length and shifted closer.
“You still have your damn panties on,” he said with a growl while grasping her hips.
Mindy reached between them and slid them to the side to rub her wet folds along his straining cock. “Nothing better than a panties-to-the-side quickie in the front seat of a truck,” she said and lifted her hips up.

Confident she was invisible in her dark corner of the living room, Anne silently descended the

stairs one after the other with steps as soft as cat paws. At the bottom, she bent her head to see the

scene unfolding at the other side.

Atop the coffee table, a white candle burned next to a bottle and a glass, creating a romantic

atmosphere. Behind the swirling flame, the two young bicyclists sat close together on the bordeaux

couch, dressed in pullovers and sweatpants, entangled. Gentle candlelight caressed their smiling

faces as they stared into each other’s eyes, murmuring words Anne couldn’t hear, and…uh…kissing.

The truth hit her like a slap in the face. So that explained Todd’s hostile behavior in the

kitchen, when she was talking to his lover, apparently. He thought Micaela was hitting on her!

Well, he had been.

An array of contradictory feelings assaulted her. She closed her eyes and sat on the stair. This

was voyeurism, secretly witnessing two people’s intimacy. Jealousy and deceit, too, as a little earlier,

she was the one Micaela attempted to seduce. That, and shock, because she had never before seen

two men—

Low moans made her open her eyes again.

The guys were sharing wet, open-mouthed kisses, and fondling each other’s chests and

stomachs beneath the pullovers.

Whispering something into Micaela’s ear, Todd snuck a hand down to his own pants, leaned

back, and pulled out his fully erect cock.

Oh, God.

Anne stared in disbelief. This was getting seriously pornographic!

Smiling, Micaela moved a hand to Todd’s huge erection, grabbed it at the base, and leaned

forward until close enough to touch its head with his half-open lips. His long, black locks slid down his

shoulders, glowing in the soft light.

With a guttural sound of excitement, Todd closed his eyes, moved his hand to the other

man’s shoulder, and stroked him.

Micaela opened his mouth and licked the tip of the thick shaft, letting his tongue glide

around in playful circles before taking the length deep into his throat.

In response, Todd threw his blond head back against the couch, arched eager hips to meet

Micaela’s sucking, and groaned. “Oh fuck, man.” He laughed.

Paralyzed, Anne blinked before shaking from her daze. She couldn’t watch this strictly private

moment between two other people. Besides, at any moment, Todd could open his eyes and notice

her sitting on the stairs. Then, what?

Encouraging his lover with his hand, Todd laughed again, and gasped.

All right, let’s get out of here.

Careful not to make any abrupt movements, she stood and retreated up the wooden steps,

holding her breath—but the next stair gave a small, treacherous creak under her weight.

Oh, no.

The sound sent icy fear through her from top to toe, and the hair on her neck stood. She

imagined the clank echoing between walls in the darkened living room. Frozen, she held her breath

and tried to detect any sound above the heavy rain hitting the asphalt outside. A voice, a gasp of

shock, something.

But, no, complete silence lingered behind her.

Maybe they hadn’t heard the noise, and she could walk up the stairs pretending nothing had

happened. Or….

Curiosity gnawed at her. She needed to look, wanted to know for sure.

Inch by inch, she turned, careful not to make the step squeak again. She bent her knees to

see underneath the ceiling and gazed at the guys on the couch.

Behind the dancing candlelight, Todd’s emerald eyes were wide and set on her.

Her heart jumped.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

She loathed it, loathed herself.

Meanwhile, Micaela’s head kept bobbing up and down in his lover’s lap, oblivious to her

gaze.

Nausea tightened her stomach as she stared, holding Todd’s look. Sweat formed under her

armpits, and cold droplets glided down her torso, meeting the waistband of her pants.

She couldn’t define what his steady, intelligent eyes were stating. In the dark, the flickering

candle flame reflected his pupils, but he didn’t blink once. Maybe he just didn’t mind her seeing him

getting sucked by another man.

She needed to leave.

The same moment she made up her mind to turn around, he threw his head against the back

of the couch and closed his eyes. A long groan of pleasure escaped his parted lips. Arching his whole

body, he grabbed a fistful of Micaela’s long, black hair and yanked backward.

The Italian gave a throaty chuckle, but didn’t stop. As if encouraged, he moved his hand from

the base of Todd’s erection to beneath the waistband and inside his pants. Though she couldn’t see

him, she knew he was cupping Todd’s balls and fondling them, all the while expertly working his lips

and mouth on the hard cock.

Pulling harder at Micaela’s hair, Todd grimaced and began to groan in rhythm.

His imminent release transfixed her. Heat filled her lower stomach.

Jesus.

She swayed on the stairs and leaned against the wall to steady herself.

Micaela brought his other hand to Todd’s engorged cock. With a playful grin, he withdrew his

mouth and kept it open above the tip while giving it short, vigorous strokes.

A few more seconds of pumping, and then came his reward. Todd pressed his hips upward

with a growl, and long rushes of thick white liquid ejaculated from his cock into Micaela’s open

mouth. As he swallowed, more semen ran down alongside the cock’s head and over his fingers,

glistening in the candlelight.

Growling a last time, Todd let go of his lover’s hair and covered his grimacing face with

trembling hands. "Oh, my fucking God.” He breathed hard.

Indeed.

An auto repair shop was just a few more steps away, with a large enough doorway that Caleb and I could hide in the shadows and get some sleep. I checked the hours on the window and saw it wouldn’t be open for at least five more hours, which meant I could rest a little. I’d learned to sleep lightly, so that I’d wake up at the first sign of trouble, or whenever Caleb stirred. I was always scared I’d sleep so hard that he’d wander off and I’d never see him again. Hunkering down into the corner of the doorway, I settled Caleb on my lap and used my backpack as a pillow. My son snuggled against me and closed his eyes.

I didn’t think I’d been asleep for more than an hour when I heard a loud rumble. My eyes opened as a single headlight focused on us, making it hard for me to see. I held a hand up to my face, and shielded Caleb with the other. The light stayed on, but I could barely make out a shadowy figure dismounting from what I’d figured out was a motorcycle. The man approached and loomed over us.

“This is private property,” he said, his voice deep and raspy.

“I’m sorry. We’ll go,” I said, struggling to stand.

I could feel his gaze raking over me. I managed to get to my feet without stumbling, got my backpack straps over my shoulders, then hefted Caleb into my arms.

“Where are you going to go?” he asked.

“Doesn’t matter. I’m sorry we trespassed,” I said. I hitched my backpack a little higher over my shoulder and clutched Caleb to me. I tried to step around the large man, but he reached out and placed a hand on my shoulder.

I froze under that touch, tensing and waiting to see what would happen. Is this where he offered me a place to sleep in exchange for the use of my body? Wouldn’t be the first time I’d had that offer made to me, and I doubted it would be the last. I would do anything for my baby to have a place to rest and food to eat, or nearly anything. We’d struggled and things were bad, but I didn’t think I could handle having strange men touch me. Not after Caleb’s dad, or more like sperm donor. I didn’t think he would come after Caleb, even if he knew my baby existed, but I’d decided not to take any chances. Thankfully, I hadn’t seen him since we’d left. For all I knew, he wasn’t even in town anymore.

“Christ, you don’t even look old enough to have a kid,” he muttered.

My chin raised a notch. “I’m nineteen. Well, almost nineteen. Not that it’s any business of yours.”

I saw a flash of white teeth as he smiled in the darkness. “All grown up then, aren’t you? Eighteen, nearly nineteen, and think you know everything I bet. Why are you sleeping in the doorway of my business?”

I glanced behind me before facing him again. “I told you we didn’t mean to trespass.”

“That doesn’t answer my question.”

“We didn’t have anywhere else to go,” I admitted softly, my arms tightening around my son.

“There’s a lot of expensive equipment in there. Going to steal anything?” he asked.

I felt fire ignite inside me and I clenched my teeth a moment. I might be broke, but I wasn’t a thief!

“No!”

“Come on.” He walked up to the doorway I’d just vacated, then he unlocked the front door and pushed it open.

I hesitated. I didn’t know if I could trust him, and figured my chances were better out here in the open than inside, but what if he was going to offer food for Caleb? Or maybe there was a couch in the waiting room and he’d let my baby rest there for an hour or two. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up, but at the first sign he was going to be a perv, I was out of there.

I stepped inside as he flipped on the lights, and I blinked at how bright they were. There was a beat-up leather couch with duct tape holding it together, and a scarred table with a few magazines on top. But the man didn’t stop in the front room. He kept going, so I followed at a slight distance. If I needed to run, I wanted a head start.

He entered a small, cluttered office and turned on a lamp. It glowed softly, the light dim, but there was a huge couch on one wall that looked a little too inviting with its overstuffed arms. It was leather, but unlike the one out front, it didn’t have so much as a scratch on it that I could see. The man pulled a blanket off the back and motioned toward the couch.

“You can rest here a while. I can either lock you in and reset the alarm, or I can stay until you’ve had a chance to rest. I’ll leave it up to you. But know that if you steal so much as one thing, I will track you down,” the man said.

Calla Rose returned home to McKenna Springs to help save her family's business... The Yellow Rose... a ninety-year old Texas dance hall. She also came home to heal. Being a victim and finding her trust level in men damaged, she is determined to succeed in this one thing for her family and nothing is going to deter her from doing just that. Now even a green-eyed cowboy/mayor with heart-stopping smiles and kisses that threaten to thaw the ice around her heart.

Ty Conners wasn't looking for love. He had simply stopped in to welcome the latest business owner to town. But coming face to face with Calla Rose would prove an unforgettable experience in more ways than one and send his heart into a tailspin. Never a man to not face a challenge head-on, he prepared to get past the barricades she had erected between herself and the male population. But it was easier said than done, and just when he's within reach of her heart, a lie brings memories of pain and distrust and Calla's heart may be out of his reach for good.

Read an Excerpt:

“Don’t feel too bad… you weren’t the first to fall for my husband’s patent lines. Although, I must say you’re a cut above his usual conquests.” Lauren stood in the doorway. Switching on the light switch next to her, she moved into the room. Barclay had gone white as a sheet beneath his perpetual salon tan.

“And don’t worry dear,” she spoke as she looked at her husband with a cold smile on her features. “I just ordered a wonderful gift from Tiffany’s from you to me… to begin to make amends for this latest little transgression.”

“It wasn’t a transgression,” he spoke, finding his voice. “We never even had sex.”

“Really?” A fine eyebrow rose as the cold eyes landed on Calla. “Smart woman… keeping him on the hook until you got what you wanted. But I think we all know that your services to this firm won’t be needed in the future. I’m certain my father-in-law will back me up on that.”

Calla’s anger had stiffened her resolve and she had had enough of the whole sordid scene. Rising from her chair, she looked at the pair and slowly shook her head. “I can say that I’m the lucky one in this room right now. I managed to sidestep making the worst mistake of my life. No two people could be more suited to each other than the pair of you. And while this is still my office, you can both get out.”

NBTM Highland Dom by Marie Tuhart

Want to win some prizes and read a great book? Then check out Highland Dom by Marie Tuhart. This book will scorch. Plus, Marie Tuhart will be awarding a $10 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. How cool is that? Read on!

Now for an interview with Marie Tuhart!

Describe yourself in three words.

Quirky, organized and loving

Cast your book. Tell us who would play the main characters in a movie and why.

Oh boy that’s a hard one. I honestly have no idea. I really don’t think of my characters in those terms of who would play them in a movie. The main reason is I want my books to be timeless. I want someone to be able to pick up my book in 10 years and see the characters the way they want to, not an actor or actress that I like or think fit my character. Readers have great imaginations and I want them to imagine.
What’s your favorite love scene from a movie?

Oh wow – that’s another hard one. I would have to say my favorite would be the love scene on the boat in The Wedding Date with Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney. That’s one of my favorite romance movies. And as a romance author, I’m horrible, because I don’t watch a lot of “romance” movies. I’m love action/adventure movies and they can have romance in them. I’m also a disaster film watcher – The Rock in San Andreas be still my heart (smile).

What’s your wildest fantasy?

Let’s see – that’s hard because I’m a very down to earth person. I’d like to be rich where I didn’t have to worry about where the money to pay bills and such are coming from. I’d love to be able to travel first class wherever and whenever I wanted to. I wouldn’t mind having a nice, handsome, alpha male with me. And I would be able to write my books wherever I was and no one would mind I was on my computer so much. This all means I could travel to countries such as: Greece, Egypt, Australia without having to worry about time, money or anything else.

If you were to lose one of your senses, which would you rather lose and why?

Probably smell. I have allergies and sometimes just smelling a flower can set it off and maybe if I couldn’t smell I wouldn’t have such allergy issues.

What is the naughtiest thing you did as a kid?

Probably cutting school to go see Star Wars – all my friends were going and I really wanted to go. So we all skipped school and went and stood in line to see the movie. We never got caught by our parents although the school wondered where we were.

Quickies, because they're fun!

Boxers or Briefs? Briefs
Top or Bottom? bottom
Pajamas or nude? PJ’s
Hairy chests or smooth? both
Alpha or Beta? Alpha

But that fell apart, and after soothing his heart while teaching at the University in Scotland, he's back. Cameron is ready to see if Kristen is interested in acting on the sexy words she whispered to him at his farewell party. He doesn't want to wait another day to introduce her to the world of BDSM...if she's willing.

Kristen Caldwell never thought Cameron would act on her whispered invitation to tie her up and spank her...liquor and him being an ocean away had made her brave. But he has returned, and she's tentative but ready to explore her kinky side despite past failures with other partners. The sexy and dominate professor might be just what she needs in the bedroom, though she worries about what others will think if she's seen with him. Will a relationship with Cameron put her successful business at risk?

Things start out great, but Kristen’s fears and shadows in her past rear their ugly head, threatening more their relationship. She has to decide whether to stand up for what she wants or run...again.

Now for An Excerpt:

“We have some unfinished business.” He reached across the table and captured her hand before she could pull it back. Almost.

“We do?” Her voice trembled a bit as she sat straighter in her chair.

“Yes. Did you really mean what you said at my going away party?”

Her teeth nibbled at her lower lip for a minute and damn if his dick didn’t grow hard at the action.

“What did I say? That was six months ago.” She lowered her gaze to the tabletop where he held her hand.

“You remember.” He squeezed her hand then lowered his voice. “Look at me.”

When she didn’t move an inch, Cam inhaled deeply, reined in his dominant side and said, “Please, look at me.”

She lifted her gaze from their hands to meet his.

Her eyes were wide and bright. “Cameron,” she started, trying to pull her hand from his.

He didn’t let go. “Tell me. Did you fantasize about me tying you up in my bed and having my wicked way with you while I was gone?”
