Liz Crowe on Firefighters and Into the Flames!!

When I was approached to participate in this amazing anthology, my first reaction was along the lines of “um, no. I’ve never really written a fire fighter story before and don’t anticipate it happening.”

But you know, something funny happened right about the time I wrote my response to the bundle’s organizer. My Muse snapped out of his previous stupor and yammered an idea into my brain. If you are a Liz Crowe reader already, you know I’m the worst sort of romance novel rule breaker so once I absorbed His concept, I sent Him back to his corner to sulk, opened up an empty Word document and wrote these lines:

“Are you sure this is the right space, Mister…ah…”
“Yeah,” the very tall man in the mirror reflective sunglasses grunted out his reply, ignoring my lapse with his name. Which is forgivable, considering he mumbled it to me on the phone, demanded to see my stale commercial listing, then hung up without giving me a half second’s chance to protest. Dropping everything and showing the old building that had once housed a downtown Detroit fire station, which had now languished for so long on the market it was collecting graffiti and wildlife, had not been my idea of a great way to spend a warm Friday afternoon.

One thing I like to do when writing books is to set them in or around businesses that I know well. One of these is real estate. The other: craft beer. I’m not a huge consumer of standard fire fighter romances, which I think worked in my favor as I was able to work the fireman connection in, but in a different sort of a way, around these two worlds of mine.

My firefighter, George Lattimer III or “Trey” is retired. But he’s young, or at least younger than your average retiree. And he’s on the hunt for an old fire house to open another branch of his brewery, this time in Detroit. Which is what put him right in the path of Harriet Jane Terrance, the heroine of my very first attempt at a first person point of view novel.

Why he’s such a young retiree from the brotherhood and why he’s keen on opening a new branch of his successful “FireBrew” breweries in Detroit is something you can find out by reading the novel, included in the upcoming INTO THE FLAMES fire fighter anthology, but I assure you it is, as they say Something Completely Different, Liz Crowe style.

The whole first person thing was a lot of fun and something I’d avoided to this point, even through my thirty book backlist. It was freeing, in a way I didn’t anticipate that it would be but I also learned a lot about only offering one perspective on an emotional story about one self destructive woman’s emotional growth, thanks to the utterly chance meeting with “her” fireman.

I hope that you enjoy it. But I would recommend heeding the trigger warning at the beginning so as not to be unpleasantly surprised by certain portions of it.

Happy reading!
Liz

Liz Bio:
Amazon best-selling author, mom of three, Realtor, beer blogger, brewery marketing expert, and soccer fan, Liz Crowe is a Kentucky native and graduate of the University of Louisville currently living in Ann Arbor. She has decades of experience in sales and fund raising, plus an eight-year stint as a three-continent, ex-pat trailing spouse.
Her early forays into the publishing world led to a groundbreaking fiction hybrid, “Unconventional Romance. Worth the Risk,” which has gained thousands of fans and followers interested less in the “HEA” and more in the “WHA” (“What Happens After?”).
With stories set in the not-so-common worlds of breweries, on the soccer pitch, in successful real estate offices and at times in exotic locales like Istanbul, Turkey, her books are unique and told with a fresh voice. The Liz Crowe backlist has something for any reader seeking complex storylines with humor and complete casts of characters that will delight, frustrate and linger in the imagination long after the book is finished.
Don’t ever ask her for anything “like a Budweiser” or risk bodily injury.

New Release from Victoria Blisse ~ Good Manors (And Boy Is It Hot!!!!)

Good Manors is the latest offering from the Queen of Smut, Victoria Blisse. Part of the ‘What’s Her Secret Series’ of books from Totally Bound, this is a novel with twists, turns, secrets and steaming hot erotic encounters.

Set in an English country Manor, Victoria’s novel has a uniquely British feel and gives a glimpse behind the scenes of the aristocracy including its seedier side. Told from the point of view of both of the main characters, you see through the eyes of both the secret keeper and the one kept in the dark.

Here's the official word about the book ~
Mallard Hall plays host to games of submission and Dominance for one unique couple, but do the secrets of the past threaten the new bonds being forged?

India Grace, a respected journalist, is assigned to the estate for a behind the scenes look at how it runs. It is the last place in the world she wants to be. Back when she was young and naïve she took a photo of old Lord Mallard, which led to her success and his downfall. She carries the guilt with her to the location and it’s constantly in the back of her mind when she meets the hall’s latest owner, Xander Patrick.
Xander’s father died when he was only thirteen, and he doesn’t hold many good memories of him. He helped his mum build Mallard Hall back up, and since her death struggles to keep it going single-handedly. The last thing he needs is a meddling journalist poking into estate business, especially when the meagre profits are mysteriously disappearing.
The two try to keep their distance but find themselves drawn together in many unexpected ways. A meal leads to an investigation of secret passageways and from that India and Xander explore their attraction, using different rooms of the hall for their kinky games.
In the end India’s secret will have to come out, but will it bring the couple closer together or tear them apart?
Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of light BDSM and voyeurism.
General Release Date: 15th September 2015

And now for an excerpt!! (Did I mention it's hot? Sure is!! Woop!!)

 “What did I say about interrupting?” I sighed tetchily.
“Sorry, Sir.” She dipped her head. “But you knew about the passages, right? Why didn’t you use those?”
I shook my head and loosened my tie.
“If you’d shut up I’d tell you. But no, you keep gabbling on. I think you’re doing it on purpose, naughty girl.”
“No,” she insisted. “No, Sir, I’m not.”
“Well, you won’t do it anymore.” I unlooped my tie and pressed it against her cheek. “I’m going to gag you so I can finish my story. If at any point you get uncomfortable with what’s happening raise your hand and I’ll untie you. Okay?”
“Yes, Sir.” She nodded.
I gave her a couple of moments more, just in case she wanted to use her safe word, but when she stayed silent, I wrapped my royal blue tie around her mouth and knotted it at the back securely. I ran a finger down the back to check it wasn’t too tight then cupped her face in my hands and dropped a kiss delicately in the middle of her forehead.
“Right, maybe now I can actually finish my story in peace.” I kissed her cheek right above the line of the tie.
“So, as I was about to say, I didn’t want to reveal the passageways to her because she might pass that information on, to Mum, to outsiders. I didn’t want that at all. So I searched the house and believe me, that’s no small feat. Finally, I found the attic, with the same warning sign that hangs on the stairs now.
“I cautiously ignored it, pushed on and discovered this. It was the perfect place to bring Ariana. It was here I discovered she had kinks. I mean, I was a naïve virgin…”
She snapped her head round to look at me.
“Yes, virgin. Anyway, I was just eager to fuck to be truthful and she was incredibly patient with me. I set up dozens of candles in here that first night. I thought it was romantic and you know, it looked spectacular. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, but she did. After we fucked—I’m not afraid to say it was a short and fairly straightforward experience—she asked me to pour hot candle wax over her breasts. I didn’t know much, I thought it was weird, but if the lady who’d just happily taken my virginity wanted me to drip hot wax all over her then I was going to do it.”
India made a noise, muffled by the tie, which I’m sure was an indication of arousal.
“She went crazy, bucking under the stream. I was fascinated how it went from liquid to solid on her skin. She had me pick the cooled wax from her skin as I fucked her—that was an interesting balancing act. I loved the red marks that lingered, my marks left on her, physical evidence of what we’d done. I realized then—the very first time I had sex—that it was better with a bit of kink. I also found out that Ariana was submissive. She taught me all I know.
“So I like to come up here and remember. Remember all the good times. Mum sacked her when she found out we were—well, I can’t say dating, we never went on a date—fucking. I never saw her again.” I looked away from  India at that moment, I knew there’d be sympathy in her eyes.  I looked back to check on her once I was convinced I wouldn’t see it.
“So I keep some souvenirs of the old days up here.” I reached over behind the pile of pillows and pulled out a coiled-up length of rope, a candle and a flogger and placed them on the blanket before India. “Would you like to play?”
India nodded.
“Good.” I reached back again and after a little rummaging pulled out a box of matches and lit the chunky cream candle before me. “If at any point you’re not happy with what’s happening shake your head. I will stop the moment I see that sign. That will be your non-vocal safe word. If you understand and you’re happy with that, nod now.”
India nodded eagerly.
“Wonderful. Okay, stand up.”
India stood, and I helped her kick off her shoes, then undid her top and pulled it away from her. I let her keep her skirt for the time being. I stroked over her shoulders and down her arms. I looked her in the eye and I saw a world of desire painted in her gaze.
“Come with me.” I held her hand and walked her toward my favorite beam. It was the kind of beam developers hate. A little above waist height, it made walking through the middle of the room a pain. But I loved its old, weathered wood and the height was perfect for what I wanted to do.
I escorted India over to the beam and lay her arm flat along it.
“Keep it there,” I said and walked round her to smooth the other arm flat. I stood back and flipped up her skirt. It was a beautiful sight—India bent forward, arse presented to me. “Don’t move.”
Hurrying across the floorboards, I picked up the rope and flogger in one hand and the candle in the other. I settled the candle just beyond her reach at the left hand side of the beam, then unwrapped the bundle of rope until I had enough to encompass her wrist. She twisted her head to watch as I tied then coiled the rope once, twice, three times around her wrist and the beam.
“Now, I could loop this over your neck and hold that down too but since you’re gagged I won’t do that.” I just ran the rope underneath her and to the other arm.
She shifted and looked at me again as I wound the other wrist to the beam.
“Is that okay?” I asked, very much aware of how vulnerable she was and both turned on and grateful for her submission.
India nodded, narrowly avoiding hitting the beam with her chin.
“Good, if it gets too much just shake your head, don’t stop shaking it. If I see that I will stop immediately, understand?”
She nodded, and I stroked down from the top of her head, through her long luscious hair onto her back and over her buttocks. The subdued moan she made intensified a moment later when I rubbed down between her buttocks and cupped her pussy in my hand.
“Wet already.” I tutted. “I’ve barely touched you yet.”

And now for an EXCERPT!!

He’d always had the worst of luck, and the day he died was no different.

Thrash stared into the chasm of space between the building roof and city streets, contemplating the eighty-story drop. It was a long way down. The city’s lights glimmered against darkness, millions of fluorescent stars. Surrender did not come easily to him, and it tasted bitter in his mouth. He’d spent his life training to fight, but what could he do against an enemy that could shape shift at will?

Six-foot-six and muscular in the manner of body builders, Thorton David Aston III or Thrash to his friends, was an albino. He was born without skin or hair pigment, his skin perfectly pale, his hair white. He rivaled the city lightscape for its clean brightness. He disliked the attention his condition attracted, so he’d cropped his hair short and dyed it metallic blue.

Thrash’s athletic body thrummed with tension. Perspiration beaded on his pale forehead and made his palms clammy.

The Soul Eater was coming for him.

And now for an Excerpt ~

Magnus loomed over her, attempting to inspect her injuries. His fingers were hot and alien against her skin, and she flinched from his touch.
“Stay put while I retrieve the crucifix,” Magnus ordered. He moved away from her. A moment later, he returned carrying the crucifix.

Aiden shook her head but stayed still. She automatically tried to place his accent and failed. There were too many layers. “Where are you from? I can’t quite place your nationality.”

“I’m Averni.” He sank to the ground beside her, and those six-fingered hands touched her again, causing her flesh to crawl.

“The Averni were a Celtic tribe,” Aiden said. Her foggy mind recalled little else other than the Averni had been from the region of Gaul before it became France.

“That’d be correct.” The Celt reached out with his strange, strong fingers and pushed Aiden’s head to the side to expose the wound. He removed her hand and examined the bite. His glittering gold eyes were intelligent and inhuman. Up close he smelled earthy and sensual, a suggestive scent which caused Aiden to flush and look away.

“Why is your name Latin?” she asked.

“My mother was Roman. Stay still,” he replied.

“How bad is it?” Matthew asked.

“Not too bad.” Magnus threaded the crucifix’s chain through his fingers so the holy symbol rested in his palm. He opened the silver flask and poured holy water over the crucifix.

Aiden felt excited and afraid and so tense she wanted to crawl out of her skin. “Are you really immortal?”

“Yes,” Magnus said. “This is going to hurt. I’m going to have to hold you down.”

HELLKAT
by Robyn Roze

Kat James likes her men in suits, not cowboy boots. Is it time for a different kind of man?

Saddle up for a story filled with passion, mystery, unrequited love, and family drama. Can Tucker Williams prove he's the best man for Kat? Or will an old-flame win her back?

It won't matter, if Kat doesn't survive her family’s dangerous secret.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now for an excerpt ~
“Do you like the opera, Tucker?” His mouth dropped open, but he didn’t speak. Oh, he wanted to, she could tell. Kat chewed at the inside of her cheek, did her best to hold back the grin wanting to break across her face. “Ever been to the Met?” He shook his head, slowly. “What a shame. We need to fix that as soon as possible.” She teased him with a wink.
“You don’t have any problem renting a tux, right?”
He cleared his throat. “Not at all.”
Kat’s eyes narrowed. “Just to be clear: black jeans and a sport coat aren’t considered a tux here.” He bit down on his lip to stop the grin so clearly wanting to spread. “Take care of that while I’m at work, would you? I have a friend who can get us great seats—tonight even. I’m sure of it. Doesn’t that sound like fun?” A killer smile lit up her face.
Tucker nodded once. The playfulness in his eyes and tight set of his lips broadcasted he understood this to be a test, and that he wasn’t about to give up any points.
Her body hummed with exhilaration.
She checked the time on her smartphone. “I have to get back to the office now. I’ll call you with the details.” She smacked her lips together in an air kiss. Her giggle could not be stopped.
Kat sashayed away, confident that not only was he watching her ass but also wondering if the opera would be the worst of his punishments.
About the author ~
Robyn Roze lives amongst the cornfields of the Midwest and telecommutes as an accountant. Writing was a childhood dream of Robyn’s. She won creative writing awards as a girl and teachers encouraged her to pursue a writing career. But pragmatism won out, and she boxed the dream away on the maybe-someday shelf.
Maybe-someday came for Robyn in 2013 when she published the Keeper Series, a new adult romantic suspense story. Then she shifted gears and decided to pen a novel with a much more mature cast—Chain of Title was born, her bestselling title. Readers have been loud in their demand for a sequel, and Robyn is currently working on the next chapter of Shayna and Sean's love story. And her latest book, HellKat, released in June 2015. All of Robyn’s stories contain one key element that her readers love: a strong, independent heroine.
When she’s not spending time with her fictional families, she loves to spend time with her real one: her high school sweetheart, their two moody teenagers, and a pampered rescue mutt.
Excerpt: And Caution, this excerpt is white hot!
She gasped. His lips were as icy as his hands, and they were demanding. They undulated and coaxed the kiss from her lips. Her mind spun as her body reacted. She ran her hands ran up and down the front of his body. They skimmed under the heavy material of his jacket then traced his hard torso through the silken material of his shirt.
He pulled away suddenly. She almost fell, but he kept her steady, his hands braced around her waist.
“Now, you need fastening.” He seemed shaken up too. He spoke quickly and his hands shook at her waist as he slipped behind her, sliding his hands around her to keep her steadied.
“Yes, fastening, yes,” she said. She made no sense and realised it, but she could still feel the pressure of his lips against hers and her fingertips tingled. She was completely undone, and she didn’t mean just the corset.
“You should feel a gentle constriction, Elizabeth. If it feels too tight, please tell me.”
She might have been mistaken, but she was sure Hugh’s hands shook as they tweaked and twiddled laces.
The two sides gradually started to shift farther around, and Elizabeth started to feel the constriction. As he pulled tighter, Hugh got closer until he stood behind her with his trouser front pressed into the flesh of her buttocks. She felt him through the thick material of his pants. He was hard, really hard. She pushed back her hips and was rewarded with a strangled, gasping groan. Now, she was sure of it. He was as aroused as she was.
“Right,” he said. His hands rested on her hips. “I think you’re secure now. Stand up straight against me so I can check.” She pushed up and wobbled a little, but Hugh’s hands stopped her from tumbling over. “How does that feel?”
“Okay,” she replied, her voice barely more than a whisper. “Not too tight.”
He ran his hands around her waist, until his hands cupped her breasts through the material.
“Nothing bites or digs in?” His chin rested on her shoulder, and she knew he was looking down into her impressive cleavage.
“No,” she said. Then he pressed his lips to her neck, and she moaned as her leg nearly buckled under her. “It feels remarkably good.”
“That’s good,” he whispered. His lips leant on her flesh as if he were undecided what to do next. “It feels good.” He ran his fingers down her sides and to the very edge of the corset and traced along the border between skin and clothing. She shivered as his touch slipped lower and wondered what he was doing. She wanted to move his hand away, not because she wasn’t enjoying it but because she was afraid that he would be turned off by what he felt. She did nothing to stop him though. She was hypnotised by the gentle  kisses on one spot of her exposed neck, and she let him run his fingers over her freely. He explored her hip and thigh. Smoothly, he moved inward, and she knew her flesh was slick as she was aroused to a level she had not experienced before.
He stroked down first. She was disappointed until the upsweep carried his fingers to the very edge of her pussy and his fingers curled and teased her pubic hairs.
Delicately, he pressed in, felt her swollen lips and insinuated his finger between them.
She couldn’t think. She knew that something about this was wrong, very wrong, and she shouldn’t be letting it happen, but as Hugh ran his fingertip over her clit, she forgot everything but the pleasure radiating up through her body. He played her like a professional. He knew just where to touch and how hard. He dipped his finger inside her, scooped up more of her fresh juice and trailed it back up to her clit to aid his exploration. As he rubbed, she moaned, blown away by the eroticism. Her body zinged with sexual pleasure in a way she had never dreamed existed. He was so in tune with what she needed that, within a matter of moments, she was quivering and panting. She was on the brink of the most outstanding orgasm of her life when she wobbled and put down her right foot. The pain exploded, and she yelped.
