THE VIKING'S WARRIOR BRIDE by Mairibeth MacMillan

Bjorn and Ylva. Two warriors who fight side by side. Two lovers who avoid commitments. But their convenient relationship just got complicated.

Determined to redeem her father’s name through her own brave deeds as a warrior, Ylva has no desire to give that up to be a mother. On the eve of returning home to the Norselands to find a foster family for her child, she is injured in an attack by a mysterious group of mercenaries. When Bjorn discovers her secret, everything changes. He has never wanted a family, his own father’s betrayal has seen to that, and yet he begins to wonder if there is anything else truly worth fighting for.

After a series of attacks by mercenaries on the fort they have been guarding, they’re asked to disguise themselves as traders and travel up the River Clyde to gather information. As they travel the situation grows stranger with every village they visit and Ylva begins to wonder what she is fighting for. All around them they find missing villagers, a mysterious bard and a population unhappy with their king and his choice of allies. When they visit the supposedly abandoned former royal residence at Alt Clut, a mysterious woman and her son stow away on the trade boat, putting all their lives in danger and prompting them to make a final stand but how much are they willing to sacrifice for their future?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now for an excerpt:
In front of her stood Björn. Ylva kept her sword up for longer than necessary, then lowered it and smiled back despite herself. She had forgotten how much his physical presence affected her. The way he looked at her with a mixture of desire and laughter had always appealed. She sheathed her sword, and he took a step towards her. She breathed in, the familiar scent of his leather armour and the man inside sending her senses reeling as it always did.
“Miss me?” he asked.
“No,” she lied. “Why? Did you miss me? Is that why you came looking for me?” She mustn’t let him know that she had thought of him almost every waking minute - especially over the past few weeks. She wondered if he had another woman here, although the fact that he had purposefully sought her out would seem to suggest that he didn’t.
“You didn’t arrive with the others off the ship, and yet Elisedd told me you were anxious to see me.”
“Did he now?”
“I thought you’d be in more of a hurry to see me.”
“You thought it was me who was in a hurry to see you?” Ylva’s gaze slid lower to where the bulge in his breeks suggested that it was his own lust that made him anxious to see her.
“The nights here have been cold and empty.” Björn took a step towards her, drew her towards him, and lowered his mouth. He paused, his lips almost, but not quite, touching hers, and she knew he was waiting for her to kiss him. She slid her sword back into its scabbard and waited. What if he was able to tell?
Book Blast ~ So Not My Type by Amelia Kingston
This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Amelia Kingston will be awarding a $10 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.
An endearingly irreverent love story.
To Jackie Ryan, insults are foreplay and love is war. What the feisty redhead lacks in stature, she makes up in attitude. She’s made more than one grown man cry and she’s damn proud of it. Little does the rowdy barista know she’s about to meet her match in the shape of a walking, talking pair of starched khakis.
When unassuming Eddie Jaworski stumbles into a quirky coffee shop, he isn’t expecting a battle of wits with the maniac behind the counter. Still, he can’t help be intrigued by the endearingly irreverent human enigma. She’s brash, but considerate. Closed off to most, but fiercely loyal to a few. Everything is a joke, except those things that are sacred. Jackie doesn’t trust easily and if he wants to get close, he’s going to have to work for every inch. Good thing he’s up for the challenge.
But Eddie has a secret—one he didn’t mean to keep—that’s going to tug at the delicate strings weaving the pair together. When everything begins to unravel, Jackie must decide just what she’s willing to risk for love.
Read an Excerpt:
“That it? That all?” He winks. This fucker actually winks at me. The coffee shop is dead quiet. The furious beating of my heart fills the room, mixed with Jackie’s heavy breaths. She stares into my eyes, questioning. Challenging. Demanding. I am stripped naked by her gaze, awaiting my fate like a convicted man. A slow smile blooms across Jackie’s rosy lips just before she launches herself at me.
She takes two quick steps and jumps on me, wrapping her legs around my hips and snaking her arms around my neck. I stumble back at her force. Overcompensating, I lurch forward, and we slam against the display case.
Jackie is coiled around me, pinned between my body and the curved glass. She arches her back away from the cold surface, pressing herself harder against me. The soft light of the case behind her catches the red hues in her hair and there is a devious twinkle in her eye. She looks like trouble wrapped in temptation. I crash my mouth on hers and those pillowy lips part for my eager tongue. She tastes sweet and warm and wicked, like dessert for dinner.
“Eddie.” She moans my name—my actual name—grabs a handful of my hair and tugs. She’s not gentle as she tightens her legs around my waist and digs her boots into my lower back. The sensation makes me desperate, and I kiss her like it’s the last thing I’ll ever do.
Knowing Jackie, it just might be.
About the Author: Amelia Kingston is a California girl, writer, traveler, wife and dog mom. She survives on chocolate, coffee, wine, and sarcasm. Not necessarily in that order. She’s been blessed with a patient husband who’s embraced her nomad ways and cursed with an impatient (although admittedly adorable) terrier who pouts when her dinner is five minutes late.
She loves to write about strong, stubborn, flawed women and the men who can't help but love them. Her irreverent books aim to be silly and fun with the occasional storm cloud to remind us to appreciate the sunny days. As a hopeless romantic, her favorite stories are the ones that remind us all that while love is rarely perfect, it’s always worth chasing.
The Misadventures of a (Wannabe) Slutty Bartender
by WS Carmichael
Ava Moreland has it all planned out. In two months, she will marry her fiancé, Tim. She’ll continue working at Vegas’s famous Cosmopolitan bar while he runs his father’s accounting firm. Soon they’ll start a family and she’ll have the white picket life she’s always dreamed of.
Or not.
When her fairytale engagement implodes in a devastating display, Ava embarks on a quest to reclaim her identity and feminine prowess – by sleeping her way through Las Vegas. With her best friend, Jarrod, acting as wingman her plan is foolproof.
Or not.
Nothing goes as planned with hilariously disastrous results. Her sexual misadventures will keep you in stitches as Ava searches for herself in Sin City, finding herself and her happily ever after in the unlikeliest of places.
Now for an Excerpt:
The day passes quickly and before I know it, I’m getting out of an Uber in front of the Tropicana. I smooth the imaginary wrinkles out of my dress, hike my purse higher on my shoulder and walk through the main entrance. I try my best to ignore the butterflies in my stomach while I make my way to our designated meeting area.
I remind myself even though I am not normally a one-night stand kind of girl, I am committed to stepping out of my old way of living. I do not want to be that girl. You know, the one who never takes a risk, never steps off the safe, well-lit path she’s laid out for herself. The one who looks back over her life when she’s gray and old, only to realize she settled. She settled for the sure bet, the man who could never own her heart enough to truly break it, the safe career and the white picket fence. She settled for all the things she knew could never make her soul sing but could never make it cry either.
I no longer want to be that girl.
I want to be the girl who lives life, the girl who seizes every opportunity. I want to be the girl who embraces her wild side until she finds a man who can tame it, not suppress it. Tonight, I want to be the girl who doesn’t go home and molest her showerhead.
Now for an Interview with the Author:
1. Describe yourself in three words.
Funny. Smart. Pretty.
It might sound conceited to some, but self love and being proud of our strengths is too underrated in today’s society. We are awesome. Every single one of us is awesome for some reason. Be proud of what makes you awesome.
2. Cast your book. Tell us who would play the main characters in a movie and why.
Ava Moreland would be played by Katie Findlay. She’s cute and plays a funny snarky really well.
Jarrod Jeffries would be played by Colton Haynes. He’s just the right combination of sexy and pretty.
Adam Grayson would be played by Chris Salvatore. The perfect combination of scruffy and sexy.
3. What’s your favorite love scene from a movie?
At the risk of sounding cliché, my favorite love scene is from Dirty Dancing when Baby goes to Johnny’s room for the first time. Up to that point in the movie, you can almost feel the sexual tension between the two of them. Johnny tries so hard to leave her alone because it’s the right thing to do, but in the end he’s powerless against the chemistry between them. It gives me butterflies every time.
4. What’s your wildest fantasy?
To be completely untethered from responsibility. My entire life has revolved around someone else’s needs since I was twenty one, when I had my first child. Don’t get me wrong, I have thoroughly enjoyed every stage of motherhood – infant, toddler, grade school and even teenagers. Now that my youngest child is eighteen and for the most part out of the nest, I am getting a taste of the freedom I dreaded for so many years. I’ll be leaving my full time job within the next couple of years and I can’t wait for the freedom that change will afford me. I’ll finally be able to write full time, travel as I please and experience all the things the necessities of life put on hold.
5. If you were to lose one of your senses, which would you rather lose and why?
Hmmm. Tough choice. Definitely not sight or hearing. I’m clumsy enough without being blind and I’d miss hearing my kids voices too much if I were deaf. Touch is out also. It’s too important of an aspect of love. As too many of us have learned this last year, loss of taste and smell seem to go hand in hand. But if I was guaranteed to lose only one, I would choose smell. Of all the senses, it would impact my daily life the least – unless I was on fire, of course.
6. What is the naughtiest thing you did as a kid?
I was a pretty good kid, but once I scratched up our new bathroom counter with something sharp. We had only had it installed less than a month before. I was young, maybe 8 or so. Definitely old enough to know better. The worst part wasn’t what I did, but the fact that my parents assumed it was my younger brother and I let him take the fall. To this day, I’ve never told them it was me.
WS Carmichael is attempting to write the world into romantic bliss one novel at a time. Based in upstate NY, she travels as often as her hectic schedule will allow. When she isn’t busy writing, she’s a mother, nurse and avid sportswoman.
WS Carmichael fell in love with romance at an early age when she would sneak Harlequins from her mother. A voracious reader, she eventually made the jump to writing.
Writing is her passion and she’s always jotting down new storyline and character ideas. Often, her characters take on a life of their own and don’t always cooperate with her plan for them. Book Blast ~ This Tale is True by Deborah Adams
This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Deborah Adams will be awarding a $25 Visa gift card to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.
They don’t make goddesses like they used to….
For eons they ruled, but modern times have been rough on the ancient deities— their temples collapsed, their worshippers wandered off, and their purposes were made redundant by industry and technology. And the Fates aren’t finished with them yet.
Mere days before the annual renewal of their immortality is to occur, the goddess of youth disappears. Without her and her restorative nectar, time and age will catch up with the goddesses. In the blink of an eye, they will shrivel and die, leaving the world to fend for itself, unless a skeptical mortal can find a way to save both worlds.
combines the humor one expects from Adams with magical realism and a dash of literary fiction, resulting in a boisterous read that pushes back against the boundaries of genre.
“Deborah Adams offers goddesses in peril and a protagonist who dares all to save the immortals in a wild, wacky, and wonderful romp. Imaginative, creative, fabulous fiction.” ~ Carolyn Hart, author of the otherworldly Bailey Ruth series
Read an Excerpt
“A squirrel in the toilet is not an omen.” Cybil felt this bore repeating. “It’s just a rodent whose curiosity proved to be more than it could handle.”
Evie, her roommate and current audience, unlocked their apartment door and stepped inside, then closed the door and engaged the deadbolt as soon as Cybil had joined her. Pre-emptive security was important to Cybil, and she’d worked hard to instill good habits in her new roommate. Despite her trusting nature, Evie tried to comply with Cybil’s insistent rule about staying safe, although Evie was certain that the real dangers in this world could not be restrained by man-made mechanisms.
“I never said the squirrel was an omen,” Evie insisted.
“You didn’t disagree when the wacky witches were putting forth that very notion,” Cybil reminded her. “If you don’t speak out against the nonsense, you are in tacit agreement.”
“They have a right to believe whatever they like.” Pushing back the hood of her purple velvet cloak, Evie ran the fingers of one hand through her nut-brown hair. “And surely you can see why they thought it had meaning. It’s hard to believe the squirrel just happened to pop up in Belinda’s toilet at the very moment we invoked the Great Goddess.”
“It’s harder to believe that a goddess of Hera’s standing would send her RSVP through a bushy-tailed rat.”
“You never know,” Evie said with sincerity. “Goddesses don’t think or act like mortals.”
“I daresay you’re right about that,” Cybil conceded.
Book Blast ~ The Gospel According to Prissy by Barbara Casey
This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Barbara Casey will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.
Three Army veteran misfits, a college dropout, an unmotivated high school graduate accused of murder, a controversial warden of a women's prison, and a little girl with the gift of prophesy – these are the people 31-year-old Lara Kruger invites into her life after suffering a miscarriage, a divorce from an abusive husband, and unemployment.
Read an Excerpt
The young child skipped through the tall trees and underbrush, unaware of the puddles created by recent rains or the low-lying tree branches and vines that swiped at her coveralls and scratched her bare arms. Hugging a doll that showed the wear of a favorite toy and a faint smudge of chocolate ice cream, the child pushed forward with determination. She knew where she wanted to go, and her face showed the intensity and resolve of a person much older than her five years. The black woman wearing the uniform of a prison guard struggled to keep up with her young charge. The thick green tangle of natural forest growth and uneven turf was more of a challenge to a woman her size and stature.
The child stopped when she reached a clearing, that place in the woods that wasn’t quite so overgrown and where the wild vegetation had been pressed from previous visits. In front of her was a tree, magnificent in size, ancient in age. She had reached her destination. She called it, quite simply, “the place.” Quietly, reverently, she approached the tree, reaching out and touching the familiar rough surface and its many irregular crevices. She squatted where some roots had pushed upward and were now gnarled and covered in bark before extending downward again deep into the soil. It was between two of these large root formations that the child placed the doll – a throne. Her hand explored the curvature of one darkened root, first touching the soft green moss, and then the small indented place that held water whenever it rained. It was moist. Satisfied, she knelt. Then, lowering her head and folding her dimpled hands together, she started to pray.
The Chaebol's Wife by Dei Araujo
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

With the life of her unborn child in danger, Camille Jacobs had no choice but to flee Seoul, South Korea, and the man who made her heart soar.

Four years later, after the launch of her start-up skincare line, Camille is a successful, single mother who has taken the skincare industry by storm. In need of a new sourcing company to meet her clientele's demand, Camille strikes a deal with the devil—her estranged husband, Seung-ju Park, who still leaves her weak in the knees. But is passion enough to make Camille rethink marriage and a life with Seung-ju, or will old problems succeed in destroying her?

Seung-ju was amazed by the passion that roared to life at the sight of his wife. Camille stokes a desire in him that demands to be satiated. As the CEO of IPCorp Industries, a deal to source her skincare line would open the door for him to finally slake his obsession of her and put her out of his mind for good. Yet Seung-ju realizes that just one taste of Camille isn’t enough; he would need an eternity to love her and drink his fill. But a secret threatens to destroy his feelings for her, hurtling them to the point of no return.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now for an Excerpt:
Camille rolled her eyes, ignoring his comment and the ribbon of desire that curled in her stomach.
The look was adorable, and Seung-ju wanted nothing more than to bend down and kiss her mouth into a smile. She looked stunning this evening. The alpha in him wanted to throw a floor-length coat over her and cover her up from everyone’s view. Upon closer inspection, he discovered that what he once thought was a simple updo, contained gold-cultured pearls woven into the tightly coiled coif. The updo displayed the graceful slope of her neck. His fingers itched to trail its contour.
“Why were you stalking me earlier?” she asked, cutting a piece of the steak and bringing it to her mouth.
“I was blown away by your beauty,” he said, his voice lowering.
“You’ve been drinking, haven’t you?”
“I don’t need alcohol to help me see what’s right in front of my face.”
“And what’s that?”
“You. My beautiful wife. In that dress.”
“Seung-ju.” She slapped his arm and reached for her glass of wine, but not before he caught the sight of a deep blush tinging her cheeks. “Whatever,” she said after a moment. “You practically marked me with that intense glare.”
“I can think of other, more satisfying ways of marking you.”
“Shhh,” she said with a smile. “You’re lucky I don’t have one on me after last night.”
“Be careful of what you say,” he warned. “I just might finish the deed tonight.”
Justice followed Pete inside his stateroom and banged the door shut. Loud noise: generated for reasons of temperamental satisfaction. She stood rigidly in place, lungs working hard. Beyond words. If the appearance of her eyeballs was anything like her vision, they probably looked like they’d been dunked in Red Dye Number Forty.
A man who knew what restraint actually was would’ve handled a woman in her condition—like a stick of dynamite on the tail end of its fuse—in a conciliatory fashion.
Maybe, All right now, what’s wrong?
Or, Come on, let’s work this out.
But no.
First thing out of Pete Robbins’s mouth was a Scottish accent. “She cannae take any more, Captain. She’s gonna blow!”
Astounded. Then murderous. Many more things, but Justice’s brain was actually spluttering. Robbins was mimicking Scotty from Star Trek. “You’re going to make a joke out of this?”
He shrugged. “Until I know what’s wrong, sure.”
According to the pressure in her ear canals, she was currently standing eight leagues under the sea. “What’s wrong,” she gritted back, “is that you’re dangerous.”
He perked up. “Oh, we’re doing Top Gun now? Cool.” He rolled into mimicking Maverick. “That’s right, Ice…Man. I am dangerous.” He gestured at her face. “Now you bite your teeth at me.”
She totally lost it.
Grabbing the collar of his flight suit in both fists, she slammed him back against the bulkhead. The metal wall rattled as if all the rivets were coming loose—she’d gained an unrealized amount of strength over the past months at BUD/S.
Grave Robbing and Other Hobbies
by Jayce Carter
Abandoned at three—whose parents want a kid who sees ghosts?—I learned the world is quick to punish misfits. I try my best to be a normal, boring human, but the call of the supernatural just won’t be ignored.
When a stranger shows up on my doorstep in the middle of the night, it’s no sexy tryst. Instead, I’m off to the graveyard, digging up the corpse of a murder victim at the demand of the local vampire coven—and that small felony is just the start.
The spirit of the woman has gone missing, something that shouldn’t be possible, and everyone is looking to me for answers. There's Kase, a vampire who’s both terrifying and secretive. Grant, a mage with a bad attitude and a lot of power. Troy, the possessive werewolf-detective next door and Hunter, a mysterious bad boy who isn’t even close to human.
It’s a race not just against time but against everything to figure out where the spirits are going, who’s behind it and if I can trust the men who now share my bed.
And all because of a little grave robbing…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now for an excerpt:

“You need to do something,” I said as Kase and Troy struck a wall and knocked off a painting. Sure, it was a cheap one I’d picked up at a chain store, some mass-produced image of cherry blossoms I’d always thought would make me a calmer person, but it was my stupid painting and they’d ruined it!

“You’re right.” Grant snapped his fingers, whispering a few words.

The two fighting seemed unaffected, however, as Troy flung Kase off him and Kase sailed back, almost faster than my vision could follow.

I was about to tell Grant it hadn’t worked when I realized he had a bowl of popcorn now.

Had he really used his magic to summon popcorn? Hunter reached over me to grab a handful.

“You said you couldn’t use magic for frivolous things,” I stammered.

“I can’t.”

“You used it to get popcorn!”

Grant lifted the popcorn as though to make a point. “This isn’t frivolous, Ava. There is a man-on-man fight here—that requires snacks to properly watch. Get your priorities straight.”

My mouth hung open. Every time I thought I had my feet under me with these men, they showed me how wrong I was.

“They could kill each other,” I finally said.

“Sure, but they won’t.” Hunter stole another handful of popcorn and tossed some in his mouth, a few pieces falling to the couch. “Troy hasn’t fully shifted and Kase isn’t biting. This is just one of those macho alpha dominance shows. Let’s all be glad they’re doing this instead of actually measuring dicks. Trust me, that just hurts feelings.”

Now for an interview:

What is the sweetest thing someone has done for you?

My son tells people to buy my books. Now, of course, he isn’t allowed to read them given he is only 9. He knows that the content is for adults, but he loves me and wants me to succeed. I have had to explain to him that trying to get every adult at his school to buy my books is sweet, but not appropriate. Still, I can’t deny it warms my heart that he supports me, even if it has caused some uncomfortable parent-teacher conferences.

How would you spend ten thousand bucks?

I would put it into building my office. I currently work at a desk in my living room, which is far from ideal. I would love a place to work in quiet, where I can close the door and focus, and that money would go a long way toward creating that for me.

Where do you get your best ideas?

I am always doing ‘what-ifs.’ That is where I get most of my ideas. I will watch a show and take some small thing from it and go, ‘well, what if instead of that, this happened?’ I do this with research, with books, with conversations. Honestly, I am the sort of writer who doesn’t worry about ideas because I have far more than I will ever by able to write.

What comes first, the plot or characters?

Characters. I suppose I know my tone prior to that (as in light contemporary or dark paranormal), but characters always take priority for me. I feel like they drive the story, especially in romance where the relationship is so important. Plus, the plot will only make sense if it fits the choices a character would make.

What does your main character do that makes him/her special?

I think Ava is special in that she isn’t. What she really wants in her life is to be accepted, and that is so universal. We all want to fit in, to feel like we have a home, and almost everyone knows how much it hurts to not have that. While her story takes her to fantastical places, it is the heart of that, the yearning for belonging that makes her so relatable.
