From MLR Press

Can a one-night stand lead to the love of a lifetime?

Kenley Kissinger knew from the moment he met Peter, he’d never be the same. The white hot memories of their fling imprinted themselves on his mind. He can’t get over the handsome blond man. But since their night together, he hasn’t heard from Peter. Do they have a future or should he quit while he’s ahead?

Peter Barnes hasn’t forgotten Kenley, but he’s got a few secrets he’s not ready to spill. With the help of a masquerade ball thrown for the neighborhood and one nosy neighbor, he’s out to get his man. Once the masks are off, he’s ready to bare his soul. Will Peter be able to convince Kenley to give him a second try or is this pairing destined to be just a fling?

Chapter One

Kenley Kissinger loved balls, but not this kind of ball. Fantasy gatherings with elaborate masks and groups of people together having fun-not awful, but not great for a guy who preferred to keep to himself.

He adjusted the mask over his eyes. He hated masks. Truth be told, he hated to have his face covered. He preferred honesty, but this damn ball wasn't about honesty. It was a celebration, and no one gave a rat's ass about his feelings.

He stepped into the Annex building and sucked in a long breath. His neighbor, Nadine, had rallied the neighborhood and conned everyone into holding a masquerade ball to celebrate the end of the summer. The kids were back in school and the floods that had ravaged the neighborhood over the summer were finally gone. The water levels for the Jeromesville Creek had reached record heights. But then the whole summer had been full of crazy weather and most people in Jeromesville, Ohio weren't used to so much rain.

He turned his attention back to the dancers out on the street. He didn't see how a party would make much difference, and boost morale after flooding, but whatever. He played along.

Maybe Peter would be there.

His breath clogged in his throat. He'd had a one-night stand with Peter two months ago, even called his cell phone a couple times afterwards, but Peter was always too busy to get together again.

In the course of one night, he'd fallen into lust with Peter Barnes. He had to be crazy. Peter wasn't interested, but he kept thinking about the blond guy down the street. Why did Peter seem so sad? Why wasn't he interested in getting together again? Why couldn't Peter give him some sort of closure?

God only knew.

He and Peter hadn't said anything about not wanting to share personal information. They seemed to be rather tight during the evening they'd shared, but then in the morning Peter disappeared. He wasn't even sure what Peter did for a living.

He turned his attention back to the makeshift dance floor in the street. The DJ played 80's dance music requiring everyone in the crowd to do the same steps. He'd never been good at those kinds of dances. His coordination didn't work that way. He usually tripped over the person next to him or ended up five steps late on each move.

Leaning against the brick mailbox structure, he watched the dancers. A man with blond hair and a tailored suit danced along to the music. The black masquerade mask covered his eyes and forehead, but the rest of his face was up for viewing. When he smiled, a dimple deepened on his right cheek. Did he have scruff? Too hard to tell from so far away. He admired the build of the man's body, strong like a bodybuilder, but wider in the shoulders and narrow around the waist with long legs. He sighed and bit back a grin. He liked men with long legs.

Peter had long legs and a dimple. He shivered. The memory of Peter's kiss lingered in Kenley's mind. He wanted to feel that desire again, and wanted to be loved.

Bert swatted Oliver’s rump hard. The sound echoed in the room. “I can’t wait to bury myself in it.”

“Then stop talking and do it.” He loved to tease Bert in bed. Besides, he couldn’t wait, either.

“I will.” Bet climbed onto the bed behind Oliver and straddled Oliver’s legs. He rained kisses all over Oliver’s back. Soft, sweet kisses that turned into nips and bites.

Oliver shivered and almost said, no marks, but this was a dream. Who gave a fuck if Bert left a hickey on his skin? He wanted proof he belonged to Bert and wanted that proof all over his body.

Bert stretched out along Oliver’s back and spoke in Oliver’s ear. “Ready?”

“Uh-huh. Beyond ready.” Oliver panted and tried his best to relax. Having Bert inside of him brought every sense to life and made every nerve ending tingle.

Bert slid one of his fingers between Oliver’s ass cheeks. Fire licked Oliver from within. He breathed in the scent of Bert’s cologne and savored the sound of his lover’s voice.

Passion for Bert bubbled within his heart. He needed this more than he needed his next breath.

“You’ll get it all at Gerry’s Outlet Mall,” a voice sang.

What the hell? Who said that? When Oliver glanced over his shoulder, Bert wasn’t there. The pressure on his backside had dissipated.

“Bert?” He whipped over and sat up on the bed. “Bert?” Where was his lover?

No answer. No sign Bert had even been there. No clothes on the floor or closet doors open. Nothing. He was just there…

“The finest in gold watches and silver chain…only at Gerry’s,” the voice said again. This time Oliver noticed the music.

Oliver opened his eyes. He recognized the voice—the announcer on the radio. He scrubbed both hands over his face. When he’d set his phone alarm, he must’ve also set the clock radio one without thinking about it. He swatted the clock beside the bed and groaned. So much for the dream.

He stared at the ceiling and sighed. Bert might not be there right now, but he’d be home that night. Maybe he could convince Bert to leave the party early so they could have more private time together. If things worked out, he’d be able to experience what he’d dreamed of in person. He chuckled. The perfect end to the dream was both of them coming. He could do that. Once Bert got home, he’d give his lover the best Christmas present ever—a white-hot orgasm.

“It’s Valentine’s Day. What’s on your docket?”
“I’m not sure. Aydin said something about a plan and celebration. I’m the lousy boyfriend this time. I hadn’t gotten him anything and was going to on the way home.” The tips of his ears burned. “I was so worried about the review, I kind of forgot it was Valentine’s Day.”
“You forgot?” she blurted.
“I did.” He walked beside her. “I was going to get him flowers.”
“Flowers?” She stopped in her tracks. “Are you serious?”
“He likes them.”
“Not chocolates?”
“He doesn’t like them. I thought he did, but he just ate the ones I got him for Christmas because he didn’t want them to go to waste.” When she started walking again, he fell into step beside her. “I know what he likes—now.”
“Flowers, eh?” She laughed. “And what else? Some hey-hey?” She elbowed him. “Right?”
He wasn’t about to tell her the other gift would be a blow job.
“Well, good.” She stopped at the classroom door. “I hope you have a good night.” She poked her head into the classroom. “Bye, Aydin. Have a wicked hot night.”
“That’s the plan.” Aydin left his spot on the desk and picked up the portfolio. “Ready?”
Heat slid through Brandon’s body. He couldn’t wait to get home. He’d strip Aydin down and taste every inch of him. “Yeah.”
“Good. Let’s go. I drove, so we can blow this popsicle stand.” Aydin carried the case out of the room. “Goodnight, Georgie. Do you need us to walk you out?”
“Nah, I’m meeting my friend Durand upstairs.” She waved. “Night! Do all the things I can’t do but want to watch.”
“We will,” Aydin called.
Brandon stood rooted to the spot for a second. Do all the things I can’t do but want to watch…holy shit. And Aydin hadn’t batted an eye. Damn. Excitement radiated through Brandon. He had the guy, the grade, and good friends. Now, he’d have a hot Valentine’s Day. Fucking sweet, indeed.

Footsteps crunched on the dry grass. He glanced over his shoulder. He wasn't sure why, but he'd expected to see his ex-boyfriend Mike. Maybe they weren't good together, but Mike had a way of knowing when Denver was low. He focused on the person walking up to him.
This wasn't Mike.
Recognition swept over him. He knew the man. Jett Dawson, Deiken's partner.
Oh shit. The last time he'd spoken to Jett, they'd argued. Jett screamed at him and he'd called Jett an asshole. Back then, he hadn't known the score and blamed Jett for his brother's passing. Now he knew better.
The guilt came rushing back to Denver. He wasn't sure what to say to his twin's partner.
"Denver." Jett stopped beside him.
"Jett." He wanted to be cool and not lose his temper. Deiken's actions were his own--not Jett's fault. Besides, Denver had blown his chances at conversation in the past. How did he know now would be different?
"I miss him," Jett said. He stuffed his hands into his board short's pockets. "It's not the same at the plant without him."
"I bet." He turned his attention to Jett, but didn't really see him.
"I come here a lot. I must miss you, since this is the first time I've run into you in six months." Jett sighed, then faced away from the grave. "Can--can we talk? Not exchange pleasantries, but really talk? Not here."
Denver paused. This could end up therapeutic or really bad. They tended to argue, not talk. But still. If Jett needed someone, he'd try to be there. "I've got coffee at the house and it's quiet. Or lemonade." He'd always been attracted to Jett, but never said anything because of Deiken. Jett wanted his brother, not him. Then Deiken passed and the argument happened. He doubted once he and Jett talked that Jett would have much to do with him, but he'd give the conversation a shot.
"Coffee or lemonade sounds good." Jett rocked on his feet. "Really good."
"Want a minute alone with Deik? I can head to the farm and start the coffee." Truth be told, he simply needed some separation from his brother's partner.
"I'm good. I've talked to him so many times. Not just here. We talk at the office, the apartment and when I run." Jett chuckled. "I bet he's tired of hearing from me."
"Nah. He loved you." Denver knew that down to his soul. Deiken always discussed Jett and their life together. "You were his world."

"Sometimes things aren't what they seem." Jett started away from Denver, then paused. "Let's go to the farm. I know the way."

Beautiful Music Together by @MeganSlayer #gayromance #gay #erotic #romance #musician #NSFWexcerpt #NSFW

Beautiful Music Together

Megan Slayer
From MLR Press
Contemporary, M/M, Anal Sex
Novella
Artwork by Kris Jacen

Can these two opposites find the right rhythm?

Jon Kagan likes his life. He's carefree unless he's in the recording studio with his trumpet. Then he's serious as hell. He plays the field like he does the notes on each track, but the single life isn't fun any longer. He wants a lover and partner. But how can he find the man of his dreams when the only people he spends time with are the same musicians night after night? He's convinced he won't--until he meets Benny. Then all bets are off.

Benny Walters burns the midnight oil, too, but not in the music business. He'd rather work on houses than play tunes. Putting in a good sweat over a flooring job or painting a room makes him happy--almost as much as watching the hot guy who jogs across the neighborhood in the middle of the day. When he finally talks to Jon, sparks fly. He'd love to get to know Jon better, but confidence isn't his strong point. Will he be able to get beyond his past and find the future he deserves?

Love happens in the strangest places, especially when it hits all the right notes.

Now for an EXCERPT:

"Are you painting the outside of the house? You mentioned something about gray." Jon didn't want to end the conversation. He'd grown fond of Benny, even after a few minutes of chatting.

"Oh, no. My friend is having new siding put on, but I'm not doing it. No, I posed the question in front of your friend there, because you looked like you'd rather eat scorpions than talk to him."

He laughed again and rocked on his feet. He liked the way Benny talked. "I'm glad you did." And even gladder he got the chance to meet Benny.

"I should get back to the shingles. It's hot and not all that sexy, but it pays the bills."

"I'm sure it does." Jon glanced over at the house, then met Benny's gaze. "If I'm ever in the mood to redo my house, can I call you?" Christ, his hands shook. He hadn't been this nervous in ages. Because of Benny?

"Sure. I don't have business cards or anything, but I'm licensed and bonded."

"I didn't doubt it." He slid his phone from the holder around his forearm. "Give me your number and I'll add you."

"555-6620."

"Ask for Benny?" Jon smiled. He could've sworn the afternoon heat increased a few degrees each time he looked into Benny's eyes.

"It's my personal number. No assistants or anything. I'm not that big." He blushed. "So you'll have to talk to me."

"There's nothing wrong with that." He inputted the info, then tucked the phone back into the holder. "I'll let you shingle. It was nice to meet you. Feel free to rescue me again."

"I'll see what I can do." Benny grinned and hefted a pack of shingles onto his shoulder. He climbed the ladder up to the porch roof and flexed as he put the shingles down.

Jon whimpered. Benny could really haul. "Do you run?"

Benny stepped to the edge of the roof and rested his hands on his hips. "What?"

"Do you run? Exercise?"

"I lift weights. Why?"

"I thought maybe you'd like to go for a run with me sometime." Holy fuck, he'd just kind of asked Benny out. Hell yeah.

"You always run in the afternoon. I'm a morning guy."

"Oh." Jon paused. Benny was supposed to agree to join him. That's what the other guys did... Well, shit. Jon twiddled with his headphones. "Wait, how'd you know about my run times?"

"You go past here nearly every day and have since the first of June. You're hard to miss."

"Is that a good thing?" Or bad? He hoped for the former.

"I'm just observant."

And noncommittal with his answers. Damn it. "Okay, well, I'll see you around. Maybe tomorrow when I run past here."

"Same time, same channel," Benny said. He waved and returned to the shingles.

What an odd guy, but handsome as hell and intriguing, too.

Jon headed home, but his thoughts never left Benny. The man knew the right moment to step in, which was kind of nice, and not Jon's regular type. He liked pretty boys. Musicians or vocalists. He snorted and stopped in his driveway. He had no idea if Benny was even gay, much less if he was interested. The answer to his run question had been vague. Probably because Benny wasn't homosexual.

He strode up the drive to the front porch and into his house, and kicked off his running shoes. He downed a bottle of water in what seemed like a single gulp. Trust him to find the one guy who wasn't interested, and find him attractive.

He had to be out of his mind, but he wanted to go back. Wanted to talk to Benny and get to know him better.

He did have Benny's number. What could he break in order to get the handsome home remodeler to come over?
