A killer runs
loose in a small American town. When free-spirited Katherine allies herself
with a man dubbed Satan by the townsfolk, has she found the man of her dreams
or has she fallen into the hands of a murderer?
Excerpt from St.
Augustine's Silhouettes:
Moonlight bathed
the empty streets as Katherine approached St. Augustine's oddity shop. Her
hands trembled and part of her hoped he wouldn't be there.
A silver
candelabrum holding three black tapers illuminated his pale face. He bent over
the counter and wrote in a thick, leather-bound book.
His cloak draped
over her arm, she raised her free hand to tap on the window but lost her
courage. She was about to turn away when, as if by some otherworldly sense, he
lifted his gaze to hers. She considered fleeing, but he was already halfway
across the shop. Seconds later, he unlocked the door.
"Katherine
Sinclair, what are you doing in my little portion of hell?" His soft voice
was subtly mocking, though when she met his gaze she saw no real anger or
contempt. "Still, it's after dark and no one will see, unless someone is
spying."
She swallowed
audibly, wondering if he somehow knew about her overhearing his conversation
with Reverend Harmon. She convinced herself that she was overreacting because
of the strange and disturbing events she'd recently witnessed, from being
chased by the killer to learning about the good Reverend's bad behavior.
Her growing
attraction to St. Augustine also unsettled her, particularly since she was no
longer certain of his preferences. Perhaps the lovers and husbands of the town
had misplaced hatred for Alister. Simply because the women found him beautiful
didn't mean he desired them as well.
"I wanted
to return this." She held the cloak out to him. She should have left
immediately after he took it, but she couldn't resist glancing around him to
better see the infamous shop.
"Come
on." St. Augustine stepped aside, making a sweeping gesture with his hand.
"A twilight showing for you alone, Miss Sinclair."
