NaNo...Not Now

Okay, so the beginning of the month, I was all ready to tackle NaNo. A friend of mine insists that NaNo actually happens every month a writer writes. We all have deadlines and things we have to get done. She's right.

And yet...

It's fun to push yourself to get to that elusive word count. Its fun to really see what you can do. So yes, every month is a goal to get to the word count.

But...

For me it's been a little bit of a challenge and not just to get the words to flow. The words are there. I've got them just fine. What's the problem then?

Life.

I'm sure everyone who does NaNo has life stomp in and stampede. It's what happens. But in my case, there was vacation. Always fun and yep, I got lots of ideas. Lots of nice eye candy to look at, too. Then there was the birthday extravaganza - well, if you call eating Dilly Bars at Dairy Queen an extravaganza and since I do. Grin. Then the dog had her issues. Ever have a dog with a cyst? It happens a lot I'm told, but this one got icky. We're talking doubled in size, turned colors and burst. Yeah, gross. So I had to help with that. Now factor in a child in school, a DH with crazy work hours and yeah, I work myself in addition to writing.

What does all that add up to?

Writing whenever I can find the stray moment and having to take the laptop into the potty for privacy. No my family doesn't read over my shoulder, but sometimes you just need a moment with your thoughts.

How much have I honestly gotten done? About 20k. It's not much and well, it's really two shorts (maybe it's four [there were two really short shorts in there] I'm not sure) that I have compiled.

Ya think I'll make it by the end of the month to the full 50k of words? Here's to trying even when I'm sure something else (Murphy's Law resides at my house) will crop up and scream for my attention.

Do you ever have this problem? Coping suggestions? I'm all ears.

Flirty Friday

I love Flirty Friday because I get to share what's new and next for me as a writer. Today, I'm being interviewed on CR Moss' blog!! Yeah! Click here to read it. I'm stoked. She was here on Wednesday. If you didn't read the interview, well, you should. It was fun.

What else is new? I'm doing NaNo. Yup. Sicko that I am, I'm going to give it a whirl. Why? I don't actually have a novel ready to write. Yeah, I need to get either Summer or Maggie's story written, but they aren't talking. So what am I gonna do? This should prolly stay a secret, but I'm positive I am not the only person to do this. I've got three shorts that need done. One that's 25k (or should be), another that's the same length, and one that's roughly 16k. Kinda need to get those going. So...NaNo here I come! Megan's joining me, so it should be a blast. Still not sure what's up with Gypsy, but really, the girl dances - literally - to her own drum, so anything is possible.

That's all for now. Check out the interviews. You'll be glad you did!

Friday Flirts

I know, I'm a little later than normal in posting this post. I have a great excuse. I tend to write my posts the night before. Why? Cuz that's when I have the moment to do it. This time? I had a mini date night with DH. We watched IronMan 2, which was great and yes, I have a soft spot for Robert Downey Jr. The story was good. Not as great as 1 but, hey, you can't make everything fantastic.

So Friday Flirts... Megan's been asking me for help and I've been helping her.

But I've also got another fantastic CP whose been invaluable in helping me with Jade and Marlon's story. Did I mention this one? Ah, I might not. Jade and Marlon's story is the follow up to Right. I wrote it over a year ago, but I just hadn't had any drive to get it fiddled with. Why? Because I had other things to do, and it needed about 10k worth of additions to make it print length. Right is in print and IMHO, the following ones should be, too. She's helping me see the things that needed added, the parts that are strong and the parts that are, well, they need help. Which is what a CP is for. Fingers crossed, I plan to have it subbed by December 31st.

I'm planning on doing NaNo this year, too. Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment. I've got about three other stories going or in my head. Oh, and I plan on working on Farmer here real soon, too. I've got lots on my plate and sorting it out that's gonna kick my butt.

Oh well. If I wasn't busy, I'd be hunting things to do.

Later!

It's Official!

Apparently my computer tells me that I hit 50k, but according to NaNo...It was 49,491...

Am I discouraged? Heck no! The thing still needs words added, so I added away. And yep. I made it. It's official. WOO HOO!

And I see my pals Clare Revell and Helen Hardt made it! Way to go ladies!

But wait! There's more! (Sounded like Billy Mays there for a sec, didn't I?) My rewrite just might be ready for resubmission. I need to get that danged old synopsis written, but, I will meet my December 1st deadline.

And since I'm so excited, I'm posting my winner badge. Yep. I'm thrilled.

So I've been gone a while....

I got a new job and it's fun. I love it, but it consumes time. Yup, that means my blog hopping, site hopping, and twiddling around is at a serious low, but it's all good thing.

What am I up to?

Well, kicking nosy heroes out of my blog, dangged it.

Besides that, I'm kicking my butt to get that rewrite done. Yep, still at it. And I have at least three ideas rolling around in my head that need jotted down on paper before I forget them. Plus, I want to finish my NaNo... yeah, yeah, I conquered it, but I want to actually get to the finished state--where a publisher would look at it. And then there's this pesky Christmas story idea with a shifter...

I need more time in the day...

OH! OH! And I have a free read up on Thursday at Whipped Cream, entitled Don't Look Away... about an artist and his model... Can't wait to see my cover... since some know what it looks like... (insert big grin)

What's up with you? I'd love to know!

Toodles!
