What's your favorite part of the book and why?
My favorite part of Resparking Creativity is the salary negotiation section. It’s in the second half of the book and it’s the one part of the book I’m most excited for readers to get through. It’s all about how you get through the salary negotiation process in such a way that, the positive impression you’ve made in the interviewing process, carries forward so that you can negotiate a good final offer.
In the entire job search process, salary negotiation is something people hold a lot of preconceived notions and misunderstandings about. And there’s a lot of fear involved as well. When we talk about the job search, so much of the discussion centers around what kind of resume to make and how to interview well. They are very important, don’t get me wrong. But we need to also talk about how to negotiate for your total compensation package in such a way that you’re still advocating for yourself and you finalize a deal that both you and the company are happy with.
That’s something I do in my book. I talk about the kind of research you should do, how to navigate these conversations, and how to decide a fair counteroffer. It’s a step-by-step guide that shines light on the process. And this includes templates and scripts that people can use to navigate these conversations, a checklist they can use to ensure they’re hitting the mark, and common mistakes they need to avoid.
I have tried to demystify it and help professionals continue making a strong impression on the employer as they move to that point of the hiring process.
