The last thing Hope Hallows wants is to become the latest headline. Living in a town that likes secrets, she prefers to keep hers hidden. Avoiding a nosy reporter’s questions about her ability to infuse euphoria or despair with a single touch, and those who crave this bliss, is nothing new. But having her brother’s annoying girlfriend, Berta, go missing is—especially when it makes Hope suspect number one.

As a triplet, her resemblance to her beloved dead sister causes her family to grieve even more, and her escalating supernatural skills makes Griffith, her half-human-half-Oppressor boyfriend, wary. He wants to put his unsavory past behind him—this could include Hope—since her abilities remind him of the Underworld.

In her desperate search to find Berta, she stumbles across a tunnel. Phantom voices within whisper that evil has been waiting for a new leader—and isn't she lucky, they've chosen Hope.

Read an excerpt:

Too many times in my life I was assumed guilty until I proved my innocence. This wouldn’t be one of those times. Disliking Berta wasn’t a crime and neither was going on a bike ride. It figures the first time I try to be nice to her it stirred up more trouble than all the times I was rude. “The last time I saw Berta was when she and I went on a bike ride. I’ve done nothing that would require me to visit the police station. I’m starting to think you have something against me personally.”

The officer scowled, as if he sensed my shift in control and was none too happy about losing the upper hand. “I told you before, we stick together in this town. You claim you returned to be with your family, but since you arrived things have changed. People are disappearing, not just vagrants or others passing through, but townies.”

I lifted my chin. No matter how long I lived here, or how many of my family members did, I’d never be considered a townie. Not in this town.

About the Author:
Maureen lives in small town Pennsylvania and her love of the four seasons —biking, sweat pants, hockey and hibernation—keep her there. Surviving twins gave her the confidence to learn to belly dance, declare herself a tequila connoisseur, act as biker babe to her alpha hubby and to release the characters from her imagination. These adventures, and a love of sarcasm, help her craft paranormal and fantasy stories full of fun, family, magic and mayhem. She survives on caffeine, wine, music and laughter. A feisty Shih Tzu keeps her in line.

About Goddess Fish Promotions
Goddess Fish Promotions was established October 14, 2008. Why? Well, when Marianne became a published author and got her the first taste of trying to promote a book on a budget, there was only one other virtual book tour company in place at the time, and their fees were simply too high for a small press author. After coordinating and running her own tour, she knew other authors could use the same service for a reasonable price. Thus, Goddess Fish Promotions was born.

Because both Judy and Marianne were authors and editors prior to running Goddess Fish Promotions, they approach the business with a unique point of view, and treat their clients how they would expect to be treated.

The people behind the fish

Judy Thomas -- The Goddess

Judy has a college degree in English and she’s worked in retail, education, at her local library as well as an editor for a small press and for the now defunct ShadowKeep Ezine. She’s also a published author so can see things from both sides of the fence. In 2013, she “retired” and now spends her days helping authors make their dream come true—as well as working as much as she can with her local theater group.

Marianne Arkins - Fish

Grammar freak and coffee lover, Marianne wrote her first novel at ten years old, built her first commercial website in 2000, and published for the first time in 2006. She worked as a professional editor for just over a year, and knows what it’s like to write, edit and promote a book on a budget.

Audiobook! Sheriff's Wanton Virgin by Paige Warren #newadult #contemporary #paigewarren

Now available in audiobook!

 SheriffAudioCover

Sheriff’s Wanton Virgin

Author: Paige Warren
Narrator: Miranda Mendius
New Adult, Contemporary, May/December Romance
2 hours listening time

About the book:

Jilly

He’s everything I’ve ever wanted, and he’s completely forbidden. I’ve been in love with my dad’s best friend since I turned five; he gave me a tiara and called me his little princess. Except, I don’t want to be his princess anymore. I want to be his queen.

I’ve taken a job at the sheriff’s department, just to be under his nose. I’ll wear my shortest skirts and my tightest shirts, and I will do whatever it damn well takes to get the sexy sheriff to notice me. Interoffice romance is frowned upon, but some rules are made to be broken.

Joshua

When I walked into my office and saw the most luscious ass I’ve ever laid eyes on, the first thing I wanted to do was get under that skirt and inside her as fast as I could. And that’s precisely what I did.
Then her dad showed up and greeted his precious baby girl.

I’m well and truly fucked now. Not only did I claim the virginity of my best friend’s daughter, but I plan to take her again…and again…and again. She may be twenty years younger than me, but damn if I don’t feel eighteen again when Jilly is around.

No cliffhanger, no cheating, dual POV, HEA

Book Blast ~ Shadow's Way by Barbara Frances

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be giving away a $25 Amazon/BN GC. Click on the tour banner to see the rest of the stops on the tour.

Prepare to be spellbound. Barbara Frances' long-awaited third novel, Shadow's Way, takes you to the coastal, deep South, where the past and the present mingle in a gothic tale of insanity, murder, and sexual intrigue.

You'll meet the beautiful Elaine Chauvier, former actress and proprietor of Shadow's Way, her family's antebellum home; the esteemed Archbishop Andre Figurant and his fallen identical twin, Bastien; newly arrived Ophelia and Rudy, here to explore their Chauvier roots and their ties to Shadow's Way; and the mysterious Madame Claudine. Under a veneer of piety and graciousness, i.e., the questions: What is good? What is evil? What is reality?

Read an excerpt:

Her timing was perfect. As she rounded the corner, daily Mass had ended, and the Archbishop was standing outside the ornately carved doors of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

His followers were tiered below him on the steps. He turned and allowed his eyes to trace the contours of her body and she felt the thrill of power. A sheer white muslin shift clung to her black swim suit, still wet from morning exercise at the community pool. Despite the heat and the humidity from the Gulf of Mexico, she strolled by as if it were a cool spring day in Vermont.

Elaine Chauvier was a stately woman, aware of her long legs and enticing figure. Some said she was a snob and she would have agreed with them. After all, she was from aristocracy. Her great grandfather and General Robert E. Lee had been close friends, and her family had owned sections of plantation land and nearly a hundred slaves. No one could give this woman a passing glance without being momentarily transfixed. Soft black hair, always a bit ruffled to give a false impression of casualness, framed a face of classic perfection. Piercing dark eyes conveyed the superiority she felt over everyone.

Archbishop Andre Figurant gave hardly a thought to the man who knelt to kiss his ring or the mother holding up her baby for a blessing. His focus was across the street, beyond the wrought-iron fence surrounding the Cathedral’s property. The gliding presence hypnotized as well as beguiled him.

Two chapters available at http://shadowsway.com/chapters.html

About the Author:
Barbara Frances has plenty of stories and a life spent acquiring them. Growing up Catholic on a small Texas farm, her childhood ambition was to become a nun. In ninth grade she entered a boarding school in Our Lady of the Lake Convent as an aspirant, the first of several steps before taking vows. On graduation, however, she passed up the nun’s habit for a college degree in English and Theatre Arts. Her professors were aghast when she declined a PhD program in order to become a stewardess, but Barbara never looked back. “In the Sixties, a stewardess was a glamorous occupation.” Her career highlights include dating a very gentlemanly Chuck Berry and “opening the bar” for a planeload of underage privates on their way to Vietnam.

Marriage, children, school teaching and divorce distracted her from storytelling, but one summer she and a friend coauthored a screenplay. “I never had such fun! I come from a family of storytellers. Relatives would come over and after dinner everyone would tell tales. Sometimes they were even true.” The next summer Barbara wrote a screenplay solo. Contest recognition, an agent and three optioned scripts followed but, weary of fickle producers and endless rewrites, she turned to novels. Shadow’s Way is her third book. Her first, Lottie’s Adventure, is aimed at young readers. Her second, Like I Used To Dance, is a family saga set in 1950’s rural Texas. Barbara’s fans can be thankful she passed up convent life for one of stories and storytelling. She and her husband Bill live in Austin, Texas.

Barbara welcomes questions or comments about Shadow’s Way at barb@barbarafrances.com.

VBT Enchanted Fairy Tales ~ An Inspired Twist Guest Post from Jae El Foster

An Inspired Twist Guest Post from Jae El Foster

If you have read my work in the past, you know that a plot twist is an element that I enjoy to incorporate more than anything else. My stories go where the muses guide them, and my fingers do the typing. When it is a combination of muse and man – of heart and soul – a twist somewhere, somehow is imminent.

‘To Adventure’ – my contribution to the DCL Publications’ anthology Enchanted Fairy Tales – is no exception. Especially as it falls under the fairy tale genre, a twist is more than expected; it is a must. Every great fairy tale has that moment – that twist – that turns the world on its heels for both the characters and the readers. However, when it comes to ‘To Adventure,’ trying to decide which twist is the most pivotal is a challenge.

From the moment that my protagonist is on his horse seeking adventure at the start of the story, the plot twists begin, and as there is both cause and intention for this ripple of change, the twists blend naturally. Let’s look at a classic fairy tale called Alice and Wonderland. There is an escalation of change and unexpectedness through the story, so much so that the reader is lead through a whirlwind of twists and turns. In this manner, ‘To Adventure’ is similar. Granted, you won’t find a hookah smoking caterpillar in it, but you will find plenty of edge of your seat splendor while enjoying the ride.

As the biggest twist in ‘To Adventure’ comes during the epilogue, I shall stroll over to the middle of the story instead. Several turns lead to the important moment that encompasses the inclusion of true love’s kiss. It is a moment where light turns dark, where white magic fades and a switch is flipped, leading the fair prince to his true destiny. It is, in fact, true loves kiss that ultimately prevents an immediate arrival of a happily ever after.

A second plot twist in this tale comes with the waking of the cursed and slumbering princess. There is a moment here where the curse comes into question, as does the state of the princess. This moment is resolved later in the story by an unlikely source in an unimaginable manner that moves ‘To Adventure’ full force into its next and most pertinent stage.

A reader recently read my novel Beauty Within – a new release from September – and commented that she thought she had reached the classic Jae El Twist, but when she reached the end of part 1 and opened to part 2, she was unprepared for what was ahead of her. That’s what a good twist does to a reader; it perks them up in their seats and refocuses their attention and interest in the story. In a fairy tale, you want a twist that is new and fully unexpected, as the fairy tale genre has been around for a long time and a fresh twist and direction is often hard to come by. It takes thought, planning, and a lot of drafting – not to mention revisions through editing – to give my readers something new and unexpected with each story I release, and I understand the importance and necessity of putting in that work. It incorporates a lot of long hours, but when I hear pleasing remarks from my readers, it makes it worth it.

Lately, I’ve been introducing new pieces of flash fiction and short stories to my readers via my website – www.jaeelbooks.com/free-fiction. Even in flash fiction, I have learned the importance of a plot twist. Although the reader is enjoying an incredibly short piece of writing, it is the writer’s duty to keep them on their toes and deliver to them something other than what they expect to happen.

If I made this all seem too easy, please let me add this additional piece of information. Ninety percent of the time (in my non-researched bin of statistics here), an author does not see the twist coming until it’s there. Or, perhaps we know one is coming, but we don’t know what it is going to be. There’s also the possibility that we know what the twist will be and where we should go, but the story won’t let us work it in and the story then goes in a whole different direction. Sometimes, we will write a half-dozen chapters on a book and a twist then decides to present itself to us. We seize the opportunity, and we delete many of those chapters just to utilize the twist.

Even then, we’re still unsure of ourselves. Is it too much? Does it make sense? Is it plausible, and even if it is, does it add to the story or does it take away from it? What if my original idea was better?

Twists are never especially easy, but we create them for our readers’ enjoyment, as we are thankful for our readers and want to continue to entertain them through many books to come.

My thanks to Wendi Zwaduk for hosting me on this wonderful stop through my Virtual Book Tour, in promotion of Enchanted Fairy Tales. Thanks also to DCL Publications and Goddess Fish Promotions for arranging this very fun engagement. And to you, those readers who have kindly stopped by to endure and (hopefully) enjoy my rambling, I thank you for your time and I encourage you to leave any comments or questions below and I will check in periodically to respond to all.

Now for a little bit about the book:

ENCHANTED FAIRY TALES

by Miriam Newman, Lynn Hubbard, and Jae El Foster

The Gingerbread Man- A Scrumptious Erotic Fairytale
by Lynn Hubbard

Once upon a time there was a girl named Penelope. Food was scarce those days, and she had to walk miles looking for roots or berries to eat. After a long, hot morning Penelope was tired and hungry. A delicious scent led her to a cabin deep in the woods. She followed it in anticipation of having all her needs filled.

The Legend of M’Rith by Miriam Newman

By 1844, an increase in the human population of Ireland has forced Fae inhabitants from their lush green homes in the East to the spare, bare terrain of the West--except for one. M’Rith, half fairie and half elf, has been bidden by her Queen Mother to remain in the forest, promising her a mortal man to love. Kieran, the village blacksmith, has lost his wife and lives in the same painful solitude as M’Rith, but he is a worker of iron that can mortally wound a fairie lover.

To Adventure by Jae El Foster

There is a black plague crossing from kingdom to kingdom, placed upon a slumbering princess by her wicked stepmother, and only with true love’s kiss can the spell be lifted. Will the plague encompass all before that kiss can be sealed, or will the power of true love make itself known to the handsome Prince Harold, providing him with the adventure of a lifetime?

Now for an Excerpt:

from To Adventure

by Jae El Foster

“I thank you for your time, but I must depart now. I have my horse with me, and it is going to storm soon.”

“That thunder does not mean rain,” she said in a cryptic tone.

“Well, I cannot chance that. Thank you again.”

Prince Harold turned from her and walked to the curtain. This time, Madame Howell did not stop him. He pulled the curtain open and stepped outside, looking up to the sky. Surely enough, the sky was clear, the moon was full, and thousands of stars glistened down upon him.

He saw the young man with the scruffy beard standing alone by the fire. Letting his encounter with Madame Howell remain behind him, locked inside that tent, he approached him.

“Hello again,” he said, stepping up to the young man. “I never did get your name.”

“That is because I never told it to you,” the young man answered.

“Well… may I know your name?”

The young man looked at him and smiled. His smile was less than comforting though. It made Prince Harold uneasy once more.

“I have been called many names,” he told him in a voice that was uncanny and dark. “My favorite has been Mephistopheles.”

Refusing to lose his smile, Prince Harold backed away slowly, placing his hands up before him. “I have heard that name,” he said in a nervous tone. “I think perhaps you shared in too much of the wine tonight, but regardless of that fact, I must be going. My horse awaits me.”

About the Author:
Writing gives me a sense of achievement and satisfaction that nothing else does. (Except having my babies.) And that's not a bad analogy, if not an original one. Holding your published book in your hands, (especially that first one), running your fingers over its smooth cover, tracing your name there - is heady stuff! These days of course, knowing my readers are downloading my books onto their Kindles and ipads and Kobos, and so on is just as great. For me, a dream come true, even though it's been awhile since I wrote my first book.

I am drawn to explore the dark side of humanity, and my intention is to give the reader a roller coaster ride that will resonate long after the last word is read. I know that I am truly blessed to be permitted to work every day at what I most love and need to do. I think you appreciate it even more when you've had to go to those awful 9 to 5 jobs you hated, because the bills have to be paid. And I've had my share of them over the years -- hulling strawberries, waiting tables, grading eggs... (top that one). A couple of those jobs have left scars. I've been stalked by a psychotic customer when I was selling 'CAA'. (Canada's version of 'AAA'.) I've been chased around the desk by a so-called pillar of society while working as a secretary. But while I wouldn't want to repeat it, I wouldn't take back a single moment of any of it. All is 'grist' for the writer's mill.

The next best thing is hearing from my readers. You have been so generous in your comments, so kind to take the time in your own busy lives to write to me. Telling me that my novels kept you up all night, or that you couldn't put the book down is music to my ears, and keep me going in the dark times that come to all writers, while I find my way about in the unknown, unlit territory of that next book.

Josie: I spent an amazing three days with Jackal before he disappeared, back to his club, the Devil’s Boneyard. He’d made it clear what we had was a temporary thing -- he never wanted the picket fence and kids. I was fine with that. Then I faced the scariest thing ever. Telling my big brother, Tank, a Dixie Reaper, I was pregnant and alone at the age of nineteen. He wanted to go after Jackal, but I wouldn’t let him. I wanted this baby, and I knew Jackal wouldn’t. I never expected to see him again. Funny how fate has a way of surprising you.
Jackal: I’ve thought about Josie often since I walked away from her over two years ago. When I’m finally back in Dixie Reapers territory, I knew I’d look her up, see if we could have some more fun. I never counted on the little girl glued to her hip, or the fact the kid was mine. So I did what I do best. I ran. But now I want something I’ve never wanted before. My family. Because Josie and our daughter, Allegra, are exactly what’s been missing in my life. I just have to do some groveling and hope she’ll forgive me. Easy, right? I’ve never had a woman tell me no.
Figures the one I want more than anything might be the first to send me packing. But when she gets an unexpected visitor who threatens her and our child, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep them safe. Now that I’m ready to keep my woman and kid, I’m not letting anyone take them away.

EXCERPT

I frowned at Scratch. “What do you mean they want me out of here?”
Scratch rubbed his beard. “I didn’t ask questions, but I’d imagine it has something to do with you fucking Tank’s sister the last time you were here. You ran off with her for a few days and I don’t think that went over well with big brother.”
“Shit, Scratch! She’s a grown woman and can make her own decisions. If she has a complaint about our time together, I want to hear it from her.”
He shrugged.
“Do you know where she lives?” I asked.
“I shouldn’t tell you,” Scratch said. “They don’t want you anywhere near her.”
“We’re brothers, man. Come on. I just want to talk to her. If she’s pissed at me, fine. I want to hear it from her.”
He watched me for a moment, then nodded. “I heard she’s been living with Tank. Green two-story house about two miles down the road,” he said, nodding to the left of the compound. “But if Tank beats the shit out of you for going after his sister, you’re on your own. You’ve already been warned away.”
“I’m just going to talk to her. If she wants me to leave, then I will.”
“Don’t stir shit up, Jackal. I’ll send you packing and ask someone else to come help. You hear me?” Scratch asked.
“Yeah. I hear you.”
I got on my bike and went in search of Tank’s house. The car parked in the driveway of the green house looked to be the same one that had been outside the clubhouse that night over two years ago. I killed the engine on my bike and walked up the porch steps, then knocked on the door. A slightly curvier Josie opened the door, her hair up in a messy bun, no make-up on her face, but fuck if she didn’t look gorgeous. Her hips seemed a little wider than before and her breasts looked bigger too. She damn near took my breath away, and I knew I was staring. There were dark circles under her eyes, and there was a yellow smear on her tank top, but I ached to reach for her.
I smiled. “Hi, Josie.”
Her eyes went wide and she stepped outside, pulling the door mostly shut behind her. She cast a nervous glance into the house before facing me again.
“What are you doing here, Jackal?”
“I came to help Zipper and I wanted to see you.”
She nervously looked over her shoulder again through the crack in the door, pulling it closed a little more before looking at me. Something was up, but I didn’t know what. I knew Tank wasn’t in there, so who was? Was there a guy in there she didn’t want me to see? I hadn’t really thought about her hooking up with someone while I was gone, but I should have. A beautiful redhead like Josie? She probably had men falling at her feet.
“You should go,” she said.
“Go, but... What’s going on, Josie? Are you pissed I didn’t call?” I glanced at the door, anger burning in my gut. “Is there someone else?”
“Please, Jackal. I can’t do this right now.”
She stepped back inside, careful that I wouldn’t see into the house, then shut the door. I heard the lock click and her footsteps wander away.
What the fuck was going on?

Detective Sergeant Lena Evans gets recognized on the streets of her hometown of West Joseph, Ohio. She’s a reluctant local celebrity, having defeated serial killer Lathan Collins.

Now, as the one-year anniversary of the Collins case nears, four more women have been brutally murdered—and the killer is sending video footage of their deaths directly to Lena’s inbox.

The investigation brings Lena face-to-face with her past: the Collins case, her celebrity status, her lingering PTSD—and the first woman she ever loved, Special Agent Cait Porter, who’s just been assigned to the case.

The killer gives Lena five days to figure out who he is. But the closer she gets to finding him, the more likely it is that she’ll become his fifth victim.

I slipped my hand into hers, and the warmth of her fingers absorbed into my skin. She was dressed in a black suit with a BCI pin fasted to the collar of her white blouse. Next to the pin, a visitors’ badge adorned the lapel of her tailored blazer, which fit snugly around her flat stomach and formed neatly against her small breasts. Her pant legs brushed together as she uncrossed her legs and stood from the chair. We were nearly eye-level, each of us five-foot-seven, and we locked eyes again.

A sudden burst of skipped heartbeats fluttered from my chest as she squeezed my hand in hers. I was already warm from the sun soaking into my back via Flu’s large window, but a surge of unceasing warmth rushed from my head down to my toes. I lightly bit down on my lower lip, a smile broke through, and I let go of her hand. Cait clasped her hands together and took her seat. I bowed my head and slipped past her to the vacant chair. For a few seconds, I had forgotten Flu was even in the room.

BREAKDOWN is a unique and groundbreaking four-book suspense series that will keep you turning pages until the killer is finally exposed.

In this explosive new miniseries, the idyllic community of Shutter Lake, nestled in the peaceful Sierra Nevada Mountains, is rocked by a shocking murder. Four women, friends who moved to the area to find healing and solace, must now dig deep and overcome the scars of past troubles to find a ruthless killer.

The Dead Girl, BREAKDOWN Book 1 by Debra Webb

THE BREAKDOWN BEGINS... Former L.A. homicide detective Laney Holt walked away from big city crime after a shooting she couldn't put behind her. With L.A. in her rear view mirror, she accepted the position of deputy chief of police in a small picturesque paradise called Shutter Lake. Nestled in a peaceful valley surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Shutter Lake is the perfect small town filled with pleasant, charming folks. The crime rate in Shutter Lake is zero...at least until the dead girl is found. The shocking murder shakes the town to its very foundation.

Read an excerpt:

Deputy Chief Laney Holt watched the coroner and his assistant leave with the body before following Chief McCabe and Officer Trask. She heaved a big breath and glanced over at the guys in the white suits who were dusting for prints and searching for other trace elements of potential evidence. Their rhythmic movements prompted far too many bad memories for her comfort.

By the time she caught up with McCabe, he and Trask were in the victim’s sizeable walk-in closet.

“As I made a final walk-thru of the house before the crime scene investigators got started,” he was explaining, “I thought it might be a good idea to look behind all these clothes.” He indicted the line of blouses and tees hanging in a colorful row. “You know, just to make sure we weren’t overlooking anything that might be relevant.”

McCabe nodded and motioned for the younger man to get on with it.

“When I got to this row,” he reached up and parted the garments, “I found this.”

Behind the silk and cashmere tops was a wall safe. Not so surprising. Laney imagined most of the houses in Shutter Lake had hidden safes. Admittedly this one was considerably larger than average. She moved closer as Trask reached for the door.

“It wasn’t even closed all the way.” He glanced back as he opened it. “I think maybe this might be important.”

Once the safe stood open, the officer stepped aside so that McCabe and Laney could move in closer. The steel box in the wall was a little deeper than Laney had expected. A full foot at least and noticeably larger all the way around than the average one she’d seen.

“What’s behind this wall?” she asked, still reeling with surprise at the contents staring her in the face.

“There’s a coat closet on the other side of this wall. I checked,” Trask said. “Behind the coats you can see the outline of this thing. You know, anyone could have reached right in and taken all that.”

He was right. Evidently the person who killed Sylvia Cole had no idea the safe existed.

“I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one this big,” McCabe said, almost to himself.

But it wasn’t really the size of the safe that was so stunning.

It was the stacks and stacks of bundled cash sitting inside it.

Blurb Blitz ~ The Baby Plan by Joan Carney

The itch of ‘baby lust’ has prickled just under the surface of Tessa’s skin since she turned thirty. Five years have passed since her thirtieth birthday, and her obsessive nature has stoked the minor irritation into a full-blown fertility frenzy. She’s given up waiting for the right man to put a ring on her finger and, instead, decides to actively seek out a man with the right genes who will give her the child she wants with no further involvement. Love wasn’t in the plan, but Karma had other ideas.

Read an Excerpt:

“This is insane! What kind of restaurant doesn’t have forks?”

“Other cultures, other customs, Tessa. You need to get out more, try new things.” He looked around and leaned in with a conspiratorial whisper. “What do you say we both just use our fingers? I know where the back door is, so we can escape if they call the chopsticks police.”

Grateful to get a bite of food in her mouth at last, Tessa giggled and dove in with her fingers. “Mmm, now that I can taste it, this is really good.” The gnawing in her stomach eased with each bite.

“See, I told you you’d like it.”

She liked more than the sushi. Every time he spoke, that resonant, baritone voice vibrated in her chest like the flutter of a hummingbird’s wings. The dark blue tapered jacket he had on emphasized his solid, lean body and broad shoulders, and those eyes… Tonight the hazel ring picked up the color of his shirt and tie and shone a bright cobalt blue. The contrast with the amber center was startling. Such gorgeous eyes should be illegal.

A snapshot of their tryst in the stairwell flashed in her mind again. So many surprises were attached to it for her to ponder. Michael’s unexpected appearance, his bold advances, and then the biggest brainteaser, her reaction to it. She hoped to hell her instincts about this man were right.

About the Author:
