The Tremayne Family Romances:
Asking for Trouble
Here Comes Trouble
The Trouble with Nathan
by Anna J. Stewart

Asking for Trouble: Morgan Tremayne has a heart of gold, but to keep her children's charity afloat she's had to resort to some less than legal means: donations from a notorious cat burglar who targets the wealthy. It's only a matter of time before Morgan's criminal connection blows up in her face--especially since her undeniable attraction to the man heading the investigation keeps putting her in tricky situations.

Former police detective-turned-investigator for the D.A. Gage Juliano has two goals: salvaging his career and nabbing Lantano Valley's present-day Robin Hood. But when he meets a beautiful, curvaceous woman who's more interested in helping others than amassing a fortune like the rest of the town's residents, Gage finds his desires pulled in an unexpected direction...

Here Comes Trouble: Former beauty queen Sheila Tremayne looks dainty, but she's tougher than she seems. The hard-as-nails business woman is determined to bring down corruption among Lantano Valley's rich and powerful. Her latest scheme to get technology tycoon Chadwick Oliver is going perfectly until a distraction arrives in the form of Malcolm--the man who broke her heart and who happens to be Chadwick's son...

Malcolm spent five long years away after his father publicly blamed him for some shady business dealings. Now he's back to exact some revenge. Reconnecting with Sheila was never part of the plan, but the second he sees her, there's no way he can resist...

Sheila and Malcolm quickly fall into the sizzling passion between them, but Malcolm has no intention of staying once he's finished with his father--even if leaving Sheila again might be more than he can bear.

The Trouble with Nathan: Nathan Tremayne shares a dangerous secret with his father, Jackson, and sister Sheila. Together they are Nemesis, the infamous cat burglar who targets the wealthy. But when Jackson is framed for stealing the priceless Crown of Serpia, the whole family is at risk.

Nathan isn’t about to let his father go down for a crime he didn’t commit, but finding the real culprit won’t be easy with Laurel Scott, the nosy, pushy, drop-dead gorgeous insurance investigator following his every move.

But Laurel has secrets of her own. Posing as an insurance investigator was part of her own plan for the Tremaynes. As their attraction heats up, and the truth comes out, will this pair of thieves steal each other’s hearts?

THE TROUBLE WITH NATHAN

“I’m sorry, but this section of the museum is closed until further notice.”

The female voice drifted over Nathan with the same softness as the jasmine scent wafting down the tiled hall of the Wellington Museum. He glanced over his shoulder, eyes skimming the curvy figure of the brunette standing behind him. Polished, his sister Sheila would say; bordering on stylish from her tailored button-down white blouse and snug, knee-hugging black skirt, all the way to her sharp-toed patent black pumps. Every inch of this woman said collected and professional. Had it not been for the suspicious glint in her curious brown eyes and the fact he needed to get into that display room, Nathan might have let his gaze linger—and enjoy—longer.

“Yeah.” He pushed away from the door frame and turned on the double-dimpled smile that had sent numerous women tumbling into his bed. “The crime scene tape kind of gave it away.”

Her deep red lips didn’t curve. They didn’t even twitch. Instead, she tapped long, manicured fingers against her waist, kicking out a hip as she arched a brow. Her hair fell down her back in soft waves, hints of copper catching the recessed lighting of the museum’s ceiling. Sable, he thought. He’d bet her hair would feel like sable sliding between his fingers.

Nathan resisted the urge to clear his throat, something he tended to do when uncertainty descended. He prided himself on being able to read people; it was after all, part of his job as a security expert and thief. Looking at this woman, however, filled his mind with an odd kind of static that prevented him from pinning her down. Appearances aside, there was something electric yet unreadable about her. One sparked his blood. The other . . . well. Nathan grinned. There was little he enjoyed more than a challenge.

Book Blast ~ When in Rome by J Lynn Rowan

It's a book blast and the featured book today is When In Rome by J Lynn Rowan. You'll want to comment. Why? There are prizes up for grabs. Like what? The author will be awarding a $20 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Want more chances to win? When in Rome
By J.  Lynn Rowan

Atlanta-based photographer Kate Miller doesn’t believe in fairytale romance or relationships of the forever kind. She’s determined to build her own happiness through hard work and professional
success. So, when the opportunity arises to join an exclusive fashion photo shoot in Rome, she jumps on the chance to gain international recognition. But she’s not counting on an instant attraction to the charismatic, sexy, and irritatingly arrogant director of the shoot.

World famous, Domenic Varezzi is used to calling the shots. His clients trust his instincts and they’re willing to pay for the best. But while his career is thriving, his personal life has been lackluster at best. Hoping Kate could be the answer he’s been looking for, he’s determined to win her over. Every challenge she sends his way drives him to break through her tough-as-nails exterior to reach the vulnerable heart that matches his own.

Surrounded by the beauty and magic of Italy’s “Eternal City,” a foundation begins to form that could lead to a lifetime partnership, both in business and in love. Until Domenic’s past comes back to haunt the present and threatens to destroy everything.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now for an Excerpt:
I accept the handshake. But a split second into it, as our gazes lock, his grip softens around mine. A slow warmth seeps down my arm and melts into my chest. My lungs seize, and Domenic’s throat works briefly as if he can’t quite swallow.
This is not what I signed on for.
Panic sets in. I slide my hand from his and cup it around the bowl of my glass. The wine burns a little as I take too big a gulp, but I manage not to cough. Domenic, too, has retreated into his glass, but whatever just passed in that handshake hangs over us.
“So,” I say in a voice too close to a whisper, sending a sidelong glance his way, “do you always wander around hotels at night with two glasses and a bottle of wine?”
“Only when there’s a chance I might run into a pretty girl.”
I snort into my glass, relieved that the spell seems to be broken.
Domenic’s grin returns. “Why is that funny?”
“The last person to call me a pretty girl was my great-uncle, and I think I was ten years old at the time.”
He chuckles. “Beautiful woman, then.”
The unexpected compliment sets off a flurry of butterflies deep in my stomach. Suddenly breathless, I drain my glass and set it down, then reach for my laptop and close the screen. “Now you’re just making fun of me.”
“I didn’t mean to.”
Chair legs scrape as we both push away from the table, me ready to bolt, him rising to placate me before I can. We stand facing each other, nearly as close as we were in the studio this afternoon. Taking a deep breath, I stare at his chest for a minute. Once my wild heartbeat and those damn butterflies settle, I tip my head back to meet his gaze.
“What are you doing on Sunday?” he asks before I can speak.
I stutter for a minute, unable to look away from his eyes. “Sightseeing, probably. We have the whole day off.”
“Maybe I’ll join you.”
My throat feels tight again. Nodding, I skirt around him, choking out something that sounds like, “Good night.”
His fingers touch my arm as I pass. “Good night, Kate.”
Head spinning, I clutch my laptop against my chest and rush to the terrace doors. I look back when I reach the doorway, only to find him watching me, his thumbs hooked in his pockets and a half-smirk on his face.
A face I find too handsome for my own good.
Still, I wave at him, wiggling my fingers like a silly teenager who sees her crush across the cafeteria. My face burns as I whirl, practically sprinting across the dark breakfast room to the hallway and stairwell.
Out Now ~ Renegade by Madison Sevier #recommendedread
The Road Is His Future…
Longtime steel hauler, Mason Kaine, a.k.a. Renegade, only needed a few things to be happy–The whisper of his tires on that long ribbon of highway in front of him, money and a life with no complications. Being an Asphalt Cowboy means long, lonely hours on the road, dedication to the job and going wherever the loads are needed. Mason liked it that way. Meeting a feisty blonde whose allure is more potent than the finest Kentucky bourbon was not on his itinerary. He knows he should just walk away and leave the woman to deal with whatever mess she’s in. But can he really just leave her alone and injured at a truck stop when he knows she’s in way over her head?
She’s Running From Her Past…
Savannah Somers has been on the run and in hiding for more than four years. Working at a truck stop hundreds of miles from her former life, she’s been able to blend in and stay safe. That is, until two people from the world she left behind and Mason Kaine walk into her new life on the same day. With her past chomping at her heels and Mason Kaine’s scorching sex appeal, Savannah finds herself on a path with twice the danger and more than just her life at risk.
Can Savannah find the safety she’s always needed…in the arms of a man like Renegade?
Will Mason be able to save Savannah without finding himself chained to a lifetime of complications?
It’ll take more than one hot load to find out if they’ll make it together…for the long haul.
Now that Renegade has arrived, I think it’s time to share a bit more about it. So, check out this excerpt:
“Where’s your car?” The sound of Suzi’s high heels and squawkin’ like a hen in anger at their backs, made Mason pick up his pace a bit.
“It’s in the back lot. But I don’t have my purse or anything. It’s back there.” Savannah thumbed over her shoulder towards the store.
Damn. In his efforts to get her out of there, he hadn’t thought about the fact that she might’ve had personal items she’d need to take with her. “Okay. Look, I’m taking you to my truck. I want you to stay inside, lock the doors and don’t open them for anyone except me. Got it?” She nodded. “Good girl. I’m heading back inside to get your things. Is there anything else you need?”
“Ya know, you don’t have to do this. I can just wait until they leave and head back in by myself. I don’t want to hold you up. I know you’re a busy guy. And I’m not some damsel in distress. Besides, after the way I spoke to you last night, you’d have every right to just hand me over to them.”
Mason couldn’t figure her out. All he knew was that the woman needed a friend. She was a confusing mixture of sadness, courage and feisty strength. If he thought about it too much, he’d have himself convinced that she was perfect.
“We all have bad days. I’ve heard worse. Believe me. I’m not leaving you here with them.” Unlocking the door to his Pete, he grabbed the chrome handle and used it to steady himself as he stepped on the first aluminum step and sat her in his seat. “Can you hobble to the back? Or do you need me to help you?”
She looked around his cab. “I’ll be fine right here. There’s no need to go back there. Ronnie will know where my things are. Just ask her when you get back in the store.”
“Got it. Sit tight.” He saw tears well up in her big, brown eyes and it made him slightly uncomfortable—angry even. He hated it when a woman cried. Mason had never known how to deal with it.
As he locked and started closing the door, Savannah put her hand out, stopping the heavy steel. “Mason? I’m sorry about last night and thank you for stepping in tonight. I really appreciate it.” A single tear slid down one of her perfect cheeks.
Mason swallowed the lump in his throat. “Don’t mention it. I’d do it for anyone. You’ll be home and away from this in no time.” He shut the door and jogged back into the plaza.
“Ronnie,” he found her sweeping up the mess left behind from Savannah’s falls. “I need her purse please. She needs to get home before they can find her again.”
Ronnie’s face was pasty white. “She’s in real trouble. Those people are no good.”
“Do you know why they were here?”
She nodded. “Yeah. She’s gonna run again. She needs to. They were on the phone with that Vinny guy. And then I overheard the manager talking to them. They convinced him they were her brother and sister-in-law from back home. Earl said they needed to know where she lived to protect her from some guy who’s looking for her. Before I could stop him, he gave them her address. You need to beat them over there.” Her lips quivered and tears streamed down her cheeks. “If Vinny gets his hands on her…”
“He won’t. Trust me. I’ll get her to her house and have the cops there waiting for us.”
“No! No cops. Just get her there so she can get her things and get on the road. You cannot involve the police. Trust me.”
“Okay. Fine. I’ll tell her to get in touch with you as soon as she can.”
“Thank you. But I know I won’t ever see her again. Tell her I’ll miss her and I love her. Godspeed to the both of you, Mason.”
What the hell had that girl gotten herself into? What had he done by getting involved with the ordeal? He certainly didn’t need this shit. He’d get her to her car and wash his hands of the whole thing. He was out.
In less than five minutes he was back to the truck with Savannah’s purse in hand. “Time to go, sweetheart. You’ve got to get a move on. Is your ankle any better?”
Savannah climbed out of the truck and only winced a bit as she put pressure on it. “Sure. Thanks, Mason. I’ll let you be on your way. Safe travels.”
He handed her the small purse and watched as she turned away from him quickly, limping away. Obviously she wasn’t doing any better. Mason ran his hand from his forehead to his chin. If Suzi and Earl were waiting for her at her house, there was no way she’d get away from them. Oh well, it wasn’t really his problem. He had a load to deliver and he needed to get on the road if there was any hope of delivering on time. Reaching for his door handle, Mason saw her stop, favoring her injured ankle and guilt washed over him. Damn it.
“Savannah! Wait a minute.” With a few long strides, he was at her side. “You can’t do this alone. They could be waiting for you at your house.” Taking her right arm, he looped it around his neck, propping her up as she gimped along.
“What do you mean? They don’t know where I live.” A tremor in her voice gave away how terrified she actually was.
He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. “Savannah, your boss told them where you live.” Mason explained everything Ronnie had said and watched as her facial expressions changed from anger to absolute terror. “So you see, you can’t go back there alone. Especially seeing as how you can barely limp along on your own.”
Savannah let go of Mason’s neck and leaned against the side of her compact car. “What am I going to do?” She covered her face with her hands, quiet sobs wracking her body and Mason thought he’d lose it right then and there.
After a few moments, he spoke. “You’re going to pull yourself together. Crying won’t solve anything. We’re going to your house and we’ll get you all settled in. After that, we need to call the cops and have them send someone over to watch the place so you’ll be safe.”
She shook her head vehemently. “No cops. They can’t help. They won’t help. In fact, you can’t even help me. I tried to tell you to let me handle it. This is my problem. You are right about one thing; crying isn’t the answer. They won’t go to my house. They probably gave my address to Vinny. The last I knew, he was in Florida and he hates flying. So, best case scenario, I have a thirty-hour start on him. I’ll pack a bag and catch a plane somewhere before he can even get close. I’ll be okay. Sorry for my little breakdown. It’s been one hell of a week.”
If she was going to completely skip town at the drop of a hat and if she’d truly been hiding for this long, Savannah was in real trouble. She might not think Earl and Suzi would go to her home, but Mason wasn’t as confident. Somehow he thought they’d be there waiting, watching—if not something worse.
“Give me the keys. I’ll drive you home, take a look around and grab a cab back to my truck if everything checks out. Deal?”
“Really, it’s not your concern. I’m a big girl. I’ve gotten through all of it this long on my own.”
Her tough side was showing again and he knew another approach was needed if he was going to get her to agree. “Do it for me. For my own peace of mind. I’ll feel better knowing you’re able to get your things together and get away safely. I don’t know everything that’s happened, but I do know that I’d like to know you make it out of here in one piece.”
“Fine. Whatever. But you’re wasting your time. What if you’re late delivering wherever you’re on your way to? I’ll feel horrible if this whole ridiculous situation holds you up.”
Taking her soft, smooth chin between the pad of his thumb and the knuckle of his forefinger, he gazed into her eyes. “I’ve never been late before. I’m great under pressure. Trust me. I always deliver. No matter what it takes.”
They didn’t call him Renegade for nothin’.
Deep
by Skye Warren
Dark. Powerful. Dangerous.
Philip Murphy has all of Chicago under his thumb. Except me.
We met in a perfect storm of violence and lust. He saved me and then disappeared from my life. Now I pretend I never knew that kind of darkness. I focus on midterms and campus parties, as if they can wipe the slate clean.
Then he turns up outside my dorm room--wounded and barely conscious. He's the head of a criminal empire, a powerful man, but he needs me now. There are traitors in his midst.
I can help him, but I can't fall for him.
Not again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And now for an excerpt:

The sound came again, louder. A shiver ran through me. It was coming from outside the room, but not from either side. It was coming from the door.

I crept over and looked out the peephole. An empty hallway bulged in the distorted lens.

Now I was doubting myself. Had I actually heard something? Maybe it had come from the dorm room across the hall. When I first moved here, it had been shortly after my “ordeal,” as my adoptive mother called it. I had jumped at every sound, both real and imagined, more traumatized by my brush with danger than I’d wanted to admit.

My gaze snapped to my phone.

I could call my adoptive mother right now, but I knew she wouldn’t want to be bothered. I could call the building management, but I knew what would happen. The same thing that had happened last time I called them. They’d send my floor advisor to check on me. If there was anything scary in this hallway, she’d have to face it first.

And if there wasn’t anything scary, if it was my imagination again, the PTSD I didn’t want to acknowledge, well then everyone would know how fucked up I was inside.

No, I had to be overreacting. This was nothing. There was no one in the hallway. And even if there was, it would be some drunk guy, passed out on the wrong floor.

I’m a normal college student, I reminded myself. I’m not afraid of anything.

Both of those things were lies, I was neither normal nor brave, but at least I could send a drunk frat boy on his way.

I opened the door a crack. Nothing.

Relief filled me, and I opened the door wider.

A body slid inside, slumped over without the door to support him. A short scream escaped me before I caught myself.

He was wearing a three-piece suit stained with blood, his expression slack, eyes glassy with pain and delirium. Philip.

Oh God, he was hurt. Really badly hurt if he couldn’t stand up. Horribly hurt if he’d ever have come to me of all people. I didn’t have time to process the shock of it, of seeing him again. I had to get him out of sight. If he’d been injured like this, someone was after him. Someone would want to finish the job.

“Come inside,” I whispered urgently, pulling his arm.

All that earned me was a weak groan.

Panic beat in my chest. Was he losing consciousness? Was he dying?

I managed to sling his heavy arm over my shoulders, staggering under even that much weight. Christ. Awake he was pure packed power. Half-conscious and injured, he was like a pile of steel bars—unmovable and unwieldy.

“I’ll never forgive you if you die on my doorstep,” I said.

Something like a grunt escaped him—it might have been a laugh. Either way, he surged up, tapping into some deep well of energy or survival instinct. His effort and all my strength pushed us through the doorway and into my dorm room. It had seemed small before. Now it seemed tiny as we bumped into walls and staggered to the bed.

I wanted to lay him down gently, careful with his wounds, but in the end we both fell under his weight, tangled on the bed in a heap of exhausted limbs. With a coarse shove I managed to get him on his back so I could shut the door.

The hallway was just as empty as when I’d found him. There was a little smear of blood on the doorjamb. It turned a mottled brown when I wiped it with my shirt.

That would have to be good enough for now.

I just hoped no one had followed him. I just hoped no one found him.

And I really hoped no one found me.

You Can Have My Heart, But Don’t Touch My Dog
by Dixie Cash

After two divorces, Sandi Walker, entrepreneur extraordinaire, is on her own and loving it. As a devout animal lover, she has made a success of the only gourmet pet food bakery in Midland, Texas. She’s also a pet foster parent and has fifteen assorted abused and unwanted animals at home. When a golden-colored stray dog with an abundance of personality appears at her door, she can’t refuse him and she can’t keep from falling in love with him. She names him Waffle and gives him a permanent home.

General Manager of the Flying C Ranch, Nick Conway, has searched for months for his lost dog, Buster. Giving up on ever finding him, he looks for a new dog and finds a puppy at a pet grooming shop. While he went to the shop to see a puppy, he also encountered a beautiful redheaded woman he can’t put out of his mind. Little does he know that she found Buster in an alley and has now claimed him as her own. Sparks fly between Sandi and Nick when he steals Buster and sues her in court for custody. It will take a mouthy parrot, a sitting judge, the matchmaking skills of the Domestic Equalizers and Cupid himself to resolve this conflict.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now for an Excerpt!
Close to sputtering, all Sandi could manage was, “I love Waffle and he loves me.”
“Look, I apologize for coming across wrong. I got overexcited when I realized I’d found my dog.” His deep voice almost became a purr. Sexy and seductive. “I know that women who are alone tend to get involved with their pets, especially if they don’t have much social life or kids to take care of and—
“What? You know nothing about me. About my life.”
“Now don’t get upset. I asked the woman who gave me this puppy about you. She told me you’re divorced and don’t have any kids, so you give all your love to animals.”
Such a rage raced up Sandi’s spine her head might explode and her eyes might burst from their sockets. She squelched the powerful urge to grab her head with both hands in case that very thing happened. She would kill that Prissy dead, dead, dead the very next time she saw her. “Prissy Porter discussed me and my personal life with you?” Her voice had become as shrill as a harpy’s. “Why, in all my life, I’ve never—”
“Now, calm down.” Nick patted the air with his palm. “I didn’t mean to upset you. What I mean is, you said you were in love with a parrot, too. What that says to me is you throw that “love” word around pretty freely. Maybe you need a boyfriend or something.”
That was the last straw. “What?” She sank to the floor on her knees beside Waffle and wrapped protective arms around his neck. Summoning her dignity, she set her jaw and lifted her nose. “I’d like for you to leave my store, Mr. Conway.”
“But—”
“I’d hate to call the police, but I will.” She leveled a searing stare at him that said she meant business. But it was hard to be tough when she was sitting on the floor and he stood six feet tall above her. Their stares locked.
“Okay, I’ll leave,” he snapped. “But I’ll be back. Buster is my dog and you can’t refuse to give him to me.” He reached down and stroked Waffle’s head, putting only inches between her face and his. “Don’t worry, Buster,” he said to Waffle. “I’ll be back to rescue you.”
He straightened and stepped back. Waffle sprang forward. Even with all her strength, Sandi barely held him in check. She scrambled to her feet, still hanging onto his collar. “We’ll see about that. Have you ever heard possession is nine-tenths of the law?”
He glared at her. “Oh, yeah? Have you ever heard a picture’s worth a thousand words?”
Hermione decides to take a chance, and what follows is an unforgettable night which will transform her life forever.
And now for an excerpt:
Locating the correct pier, Hermione pulled her ticket from her pocket and showed it to the girl welcoming passengers onto the boat. The girl—the badge pinned to her blouse giving her name as Reka—glanced at the ticket, and smiled. “Thank you. Please take a seat inside until the boat arrives. Enjoy your trip.”
With a nod, Hermione gingerly headed along the gangplank and boarded the vessel, wondering what Reka meant. Surely this was the boat? She shrugged, smiling at the other members of staff she passed, and followed the buzz of chatter to find the other passengers. Maybe it had been a misunderstanding, her meaning lost in translation or something.
Heading up a couple of steps to a bar room full of other tourists, she quickly took a seat at an empty table by the window. She’d have a great view of Budapest’s riverside highlights from here—and she was sure they’d look different again once night fell. Already the sky was darkening—it was almost four p.m. on a chilly January day.
She was so intent on admiring the Chain Bridge that she didn’t know there was anyone beside her until someone said, “Excuse me, madam? Would you like to take advantage of our special drinks offer?”
Turning to the source of the voice, her fluttering heart the only indication that she’d been startled, she smiled. “Maybe. What’s the offer?”
Her smile widened as she studied the man who’d spoken. He looked to be around her age—early twenties, and damn cute. Dark, slightly overlong hair curled on his head, deep brown eyes gave him an intensity that increased the flutters in her heart, and the dimpled smile he flashed as he replied lit up his handsome face. “It is happy hour. Two drinks for price of one.” He paused, looked at the empty seat beside her, then glanced over his shoulder as though checking if anyone was coming to
join her at the table. “But perhaps you would only like one? Maybe I can see if yours can be half price…”
“It’s okay,” she replied firmly. “I’m going to be on the boat for a while, I’m sure I can manage two drinks. I don’t have to have them at the same time, do I?”
He shook his head. “No. I will be serving on the other boat in a moment, so I will look after you and your drinks to make sure you get special price.”
Immediately following his mention of an additional boat, a loud voice rang out. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are now ready for you to board the tour boat. Please be very careful while stepping from one boat to the other. As soon as you are all seated, we will begin the trip. Thank you.”
It was then Hermione realised that as she’d been gazing out of the window to one side, a smaller boat had pulled up alongside the one she was on. Everyone was getting up and moving to the staircase. “Thank you,” Hermione said, glancing at the man’s name badge. “Emil. I would absolutely like to take you up on your offer.”
He smiled, and she returned the gesture, only allowing the grimace to take over her face once she was out of his view. She was glad of any language barriers at that moment—hopefully it had prevented Emil recognising the blatant double entendre in her words, inadvertent though it had been.
As she emerged into the main space of the tour boat, she worried there wasn’t enough room for her and she might have to share a table with someone else. Not that it would be the end of the world, but over the past couple of days in the Hungarian capital, she’d become accustomed to her own company, even begun enjoying it. And the beautiful city had been more than enough of a distraction, in any case.
