Argh! The Arm Won't Attach!

Okay, now that you looked at the post... no I'm not going into anatomy (unless you want me to). Ever have that moment when you know where the story should go, but you just can't seem to make it happen (or as one TV character said "make it so")?

I'm so there.

I have a WIP that's been rolling around for a while (Yes, Ash, that one) and I need to fix it. Well, by fix it, I mean I need to add more conflict (it had a great love story, but not enough conflict). I also need to beef the characters up a bit. True, you can't really make a sexy cop any sexier, simply because he's a cop, but you can give him little nuances that draw the heroine to him. Then there's the converse - the little things that draw the hero to the heroine.

I read recently that she can't be perfect to the point of boredom. I agree. Who wants to read about the perfect woman? Well, not me. I want her to have a bit of cellulite, a bad hair day that never ends, or the ability to fumble a sexy line because she's nervous. Why? Because it makes her human. Same for the guy. He can look like a Jeremy Sisto, but if he's so perfect that he's Check Spellingunbelievable, the there you have it - he's unbelievable.

Ah, but I ramble and stall. So back to my WIP and hopefully I can get a bit done so when my crit partners come back with the other WIP's I can get them submitted and get something going.

Toodles.

Stopping to Enjoy the Bones

My son loves dinosaurs. Doesn't every 6 yr old? Yes, he LOVES dinos.

What did we do? Visited the Natural History museum to check out the T-Rex and Triceratops bones. It was fun, he squealed and explained that the dinos come to life at night time (Thank you Night at the Museum) and that they liked to play fetch.

I think my favorite part was to people watch. Folks of all walks of life go to the museum to learn about the past. It's pretty neat to see the stuff critters that you wouldn't normally see in your backyard.

Some children were on leashes, others wore shirts to match their folks. Many parents spent most of the time on their cell phones and a couple texted as they wandered.

I felt rather bad for them. They're missing out on so much. Yes, some of the pictures are a little faded, and some of the animals are a bit creepy in their poses, but there is a lot to learn at the museum: where we came from, where we're going... and what we can no longer appreciate in person.

Ah well. Enjoy the bones, soon they could be yours. : )

I GOT MY COVER!!!

I wanted to share my cover with you all.
I love it.
Let me know what you think!
I can't wait to see your comments.

Here's the blurb:

Sometimes the love of your life isn’t the one you expect, but he’s the one you need.

Cass Jenson needs an actor for her made for TV movie. The previous actor dropped out, leaving her stranded. Her savior shows up looking sinfully sexy and totally right for the part, but what part is she auditioning him for? Her movie or her bed?

Logan Malone needs an acting job and fast. With his string of broken hearts, his professional life lies in shambles. To resurrect his career, he must audition for a television role which could be the job of a lifetime. That is, if he can work with distraction and Cass is a major distraction with a heart of gold. Is their budding relationship enough to survive separation, lies, and a couple zany fans?

Full length novel coming soon from The Wild Rose Press!

New Look!

I have some great friends and influences. They finally, yes finally, convinced me to update my blog look and are in the process of creating a better website. Whew! I have so little knowledge of creating a website, but I have faith in them

I was told that if I wanted to be a serious writer, then I needed a seriously professional website and blog. I agree.

So... I'm getting there.

Tell me what you think of the new look. I'm always up for suggestion, but I do miss the race pics.

Covers

Covers, oovers everywhere...
And don't 'cha just want to stare...

No I still don't have my cover for Right, but I'm not bummed. I actually thought I'd celebrate some covers I think are really hot and (although some might disagree) beautiful. Yes, I think cover art can be beautiful. Have you ever been to the book store and saw a book and thought: I wonder if I'd like that book? I have. The first thing I do is look at the cover. If the cover catches my eye, then I'll pick it up. If the blurb on the back doesn't draw me in... well... that's another problem for another day. But once in a while, I've picked up a book that the blurb didn't draw me in, but the cover did and I found a new favorite.

The look must be classic and unfestered by lots of extra stuff, like things in the background.
Simple is beautiful.

So here are a few of my favorites... and yes, I can be swayed by a hunk on the front.
If you ever get the chance to read Kimberly Raye's Vampire series published by Harlequin... I highly recommend it. This guys is the first cover and the rest are on the same par.
Ooh la la!

Time Flies

I got my galley for Right Where I Need to Be today and worked my fanny off to get the edits not only caught, but pointed out for my editor. If this is what she has to do for every MS, bless her heart. It was somewhat of a pain. I know I didn't mess up half that stuff because I tried to make the MS the best it could be before I sent it in.

Sheesh!

I also wanted to post the permanent link for my WC short story in case anyone wants to go back and check it out.

Feel free to leave me feedback on it. I love hearing what people have to say, good and bad. Bad comments make you better and stronger. (Just don't be mean.)

Back on the Horse (And a Wee Bit Freaked)

Time to take a deep breath. Yes, I submitted a second story. trust me, this isn't the second time I've ever submitted. Far from it. I've had my share of rejections and for the most part, I learned something. In every case, it made me stronger.

As you probably figured out if you read any of my past posts, I've had a little success.

Today, I climbed back on the horse and submitted once again. I made some connections at the Lori Foster GT and felt pretty good. But do you ever get that "I worked my fanny off on this MS and polished the darn thing until my fingers are nubs, but I still feel like it wasn't good enough" feeling? My hubby calls it buyer remorse or in this case Writer's Remorse. You know the MS was the best it can be and yet you start to worry a little once you sent it off (Since in this day and age of email, you can't get the email back)... Maybe you never felt that way. I know I did with Right and with Best. Both seem to be doing well.

So now I play the waiting game to see how long until I get that wonderful auto response saying someone has the MS and in some period of time someone will get to it. I hope they like it. I enjoyed writing it.

Now I'm off to work on another challenge. My friend Debbie asked me what happened between Sam and Emma in Best to rip them apart and why didn't Blaine like Sam? For that matter, she wanted to know what Blaine's story was.

Soon, she may know...

I'll leave you with that thought.

Toodles.

Lori Foster Get Together Madness!!

I want to say I had a great time at the Get Together. I learned a lot and met some fantastic people. The drive was long, but worth it.

First, I got my pic taken with a cover model. Never figured that would happen because well, I never figured it would. Here's the outcome:

me and julian..

Not a bad experience...

Then I met the one and only LORA LEIGH! How cool is that? She is so cool and down to earth. More authors should be like her. But then I met so many other authors that rocked as much as she did, so it was all good.

Photobucket

Now some shout outs...

Lorie O'Clare - you cracked me up. Love the book!

Anne Rainey - loved seeing you. You rock. Can't wait to get into Seduce Me. Should've got a pic, but I forgot. Next year I'll buy the beers. But then I'll never look at super glue the same way again... you know.

Amy C. - I'll read your book as soon as it comes out. Say hi to mom for me too.

Michelle Witvliet - Damn Good Man rocks and we should all read it. Thanks for being a friend and fountain of info.

Janice Maynard - you remembered me which is pretty cool since you must meet tons of people.

Erin McCarthy - great to meet you and see who writes those sexy race books

To the lady we shared the Menage a Trois with (get your mind out of the gutter - I am referring to the wine!). Thanks for sharing and being cool.

U and Terra - you guys are hilarious! Love ya!

Tee, Lady B, Carol, Really Bad Barb - you guys make the event fun too.

Lori and Dianne - I had a blast. Can't wait for next year.

and Linda - my adopted mother - I think this should be a yearly thing for us. You rock. I hope all that you worked for works out (you know what I mean).

Hugs and love all around!
Oh, and check out the Whipped Cream site on Thursday!! I have the free read! Comment and tell me if you like or not and why. I'd love to hear from ya!

Television!

Okay, I'm the first to admit I love television. From those cheesy countdown shows on VH1, the Seven Ages of Rock (Brit Pop is my fave because it's all the old Oasis tunes I loved in high school) and then there's my cop dramas (look at my eye candy if you doubt): CSI: NY, CSI:MIAMI, & Law and Order (the original). Yes, I have a thing for Jon Togo and Jeremy Sisto (who doesn't?). Did I mention my NASCAR fetish? Yeah, I'm hooked, big time. And if the race is on dirt (mostly late models), I'm there.

Kooky, probably, but everyone needs a few loose screws in their lives...

But I must also add that there are a couple new shows coming on that grabbed my interest. Mental looks interesting. A little chaotic (but no worse than ER). I'm interested in The Listener, too. Looks different. Might have promise.

One thing to keep in mind, I watch TV while I write and I never get to watch my favorite shows the actual night and time they're on. DVR! Either the family starts a line of never-ending questions or I can't concentrate. Go figure. (Watching a movie on my own RARELY happens...)

So what are you watching? Let me know!

(And yes, I'll stop with the puns...)
